The Sun Rises

Two months ago I declared that I am not able to develope the Modding Suite any further. Two months ago my live darkened, the sunshine was replaced by the shadows of heavy rain coulds... Yeah that´s the image I get when I remember these two months.

I didn´t even have time to start my computer... FOR 2 MONTHS!... Well okay all it says is that... I am back!

And there we go:

I am currently investigating my own Code. ... This sounds odd but after two months I can´t even remember the simplest routines wiithout having to look up the expressions in a codebook. (Well the codebook is right behind my cookbook, so yeah I almost got lost in some recipes for some extraordinary cakes... Even made one! Tasted pretty well but to get back to the topic:

The code as it is is pretty organized and easy to read, once you understand those specific expressions.^^

BUT, I AM TIRED OF HAVING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO implent rudimentary features like undo functions etc., so I did some searches on the web and... Well yeah there are some solutions.

1. Solution: Concentrating on the main features and everything else will be handled by the IDE. The good thing is: I got an evaluation version to test it out. The bad thing is it cost a lot of money... To much for a community project.

My Big Boss said he would buy it for me... But not for creating a little community project... What he wants me to do is create some database handling tools for specific companys, so in the end I would end up coding the community project.^^

2. Solution: Stick to the IDE I have right now (Revolution) and search for extensiions, plugins etc. Luckily I was able to find a pretty amazing Framework that provides me with an extended API to implent features right with one expression or a simple

function. The Bad thing is: I have to read and understand 422 Pages of Coding Documentation to use the extended API wisely. And to make things even worse: I HATE to read books about coding (-> Things would be better if I had a Kindle because my bookshelfes are running out of space. The bad thing is: I don´t have one and I don´t intend to get one).

So well I don´t say: Yeah I am back and the next version of the Modding Suite is coming tomorrow but I am saying: Hey I am back and the Modding Suite is not yet dead. Actually I am going to work on it again (after reading 100 pages of the API Documentation... I don´t think the remaining 322 Pages are worth the reading^^)

There´s another thing I would like to discuss:

The Modding Suite is in a bad shape. I would love to give the interface a really cool look but unfortunately I am not a great graphics designer so here´s a task for you:

1. We need application Icons (You know the little icons at your desktop featuring LEGO Rock Raiders, WoW, Starcraft... Uhm I don´t know what you are playing but at least you now know what an icon is^^)

Size 32 x 32 pixels

Theme: Something related to Rock Raiders (Maybe an energy crystal or a spacecraft... Just some suggestions)

2. A Splash Screen image (or even more images)

This image will be displayed at the start up of the application

Size ... Size doesn´t matter!^^

Theme: Something related to Rock Raiders (Please no copyright protected material)

3. An Interface Design Color Theme

Just give me a screenshot of an application that has an interface style you really like... no! YOU HAVE TO LOVE IT!^^

Please send every entry as a private message or contact me via mail.

Eventually I might set up a thread on the forum as well but I prefer using the blog.

That´s it from my side, now it´s your turn!

Regards,

Masterchief

PS: It´s good to be back!

Thanks for reappering...and good to see some progress!

Also, I think for once either LZ didn't see it, or he's trying to ignore it...

I just loosed my angst irl instead of here. Btw that was a mistake, I had to clean up later

Ok, read 68 Pages today... Didn´t understand everything so I had to read it twice but I think it´s worth reading the rest of the book not just 100 pages.^^ Thank you all for your support! Feels really good to be back! :satisfied:

Hey, welcome back!

Ugh, UI. That is one of my least favorite programming fields.

Use QT or something for helping out with the interface? I heard it makes the job much easier.

Relied on QT for several other projects, really a great framework! But for the Modding Suite - No I don´t use QT anymore therefore I don´t have the stylesheet advantages of QT but at least I gain some speed during the code execution.

Back to topic: It´s not about the UI programming it´s just about the UI design ;) So if anyone has some talents in creating a great looking design then hand it over and I will implent it as the standard UI for the Modding Suite!^^

Status: Read 38 Pages of new stuff and reread the 68 pages of yesterday again so I remember it!^^

You have a point there. I fail in both UI design and UI programming...

Whee reading.
