# Welcome to Rock Raiders United!

Rock Raiders United, or RRU for short, is a community that aims to bring people with many backgrounds together to discuss all things LEGO.  Being in a community means you'll have the opportunity to interact with people from around the world with differing opinions and cultures.  We have a set of ground rules for all members to keep this community safe and positive.  Please read through these if you have recently registered or are new to forums.

# Core Rules

The following rules form the basis of our community. In order to keep your account in good standing, we would ask for you to please follow and abide by them.

Please do:

    - Respect all members, regardless of their identifying characteristics (including, but not limited to, gender, sexuality, and nationality)
    - Respect administrators and moderators. They have the final say.
    - Report users, posts, or images that violate the rules.

Please do not:

- Use abusive language or use Unicode characters to swear
- Post hate speech, racist content, or personally identifiable information (doxing will not be tolerated and will result in a ban)
- Use the forum for criminal activity of any kind (will result in an immediate ban)
- Harass, impersonate or defame other members
- Post obscene, not-safe-for-work, or sexually explicit content
- Post content relating to politics or religion
- Engage in spamming, phishing, or scamming, or other malicious behavior
- Advertise unrelated services using any part of the forum
- Post content to pirated material (see details below)
- Attempt to derail topics or cause drama.
- Sabotage, Hack, DDOS, or use other electronic means to disrupt the forum or target its members
- Post from the future (specifically from March 12th 2058), as may create paradoxes. Contact a time lord first.

# Account Rules

The following rules pertain to account creation, ownership, and modification.

Please do not:

    - Create multiple accounts. If you wish for your username to be changed, please contact an administrator.
    - Attempt to avoid bans. If you were banned, it was for a reason.
    - Use disposable or fake e-mail addresses when registering. We will delete such accounts without warning.
    - Use excessive signatures or many images as this may impact site performance.
    - Use Rude, Offensive, or Spam usernames or Unicode to bypass this rule.
    - Use company logos as a profile photo unless you own the rights to the image.

# Posting & Forum Etiquette

All users of Rock Raiders are encouraged to follow our Forum Etiquette, especially newer members.  Please see the below for best practices related to posting and sharing content on the forum.

1. Search the forum before starting a new topic.

Before creating a new topic, search the forum to see if a similar topic already exists.
Most forums have a search function just for this purpose. Ours is in the top-right.
You may uncover more information by reading previous posts than by starting a new topic.
Please help us avoid redundant or repetitive topics and questions.

2. Before posting, ask yourself the following questions:

Always be cautious about what you post on the internet.  Usually, once posted, it will live somewhere forever.  If you are not comfortable with what you are posting living forever, it may be best to not post it.

        - Has my question already been asked or is the information I am seeking already present on the site?
You are always free to append your question to an older thread that is related.
        - Am I adding anything new/significant to the topic or section?
        - Is this the right place or section to create my topic or post?
Reduce clutter, append it to a historic post near you! Call +1APPENDTODAY for a 10% discount!
Terms and conditions may apply. Contact your local reseller for more information.
        - Is this something I want to include in a public, possibly permanent, forum?

3. Post clearly.

Ambiguous questions can lead to a lack of response.
Ensure you provide as much information as necessary to get your point/question across.

        - If you have a troubleshooting question, please provide as much information as you can and what steps you have taken to solve it, if any.  Information such as what operating system you are using can be helpful to narrow down any issues
        - Avoid using "meme" speak or weird formatting. This makes posts difficult to read.

4. Check the readability of your post.

It is important to ensure your message is readable, as it can create unnecessary confusion.

        - You should check your post for spelling and grammar.
        - Please use English. If English is not your primary language, you may use either:
            - DeepL Translator (https://www.deepl.com/translator)
                       Or
            - Google Translate (https://translate.google.com/)

5. Check the tone of your post.

While there are a few exceptions to this rule, the tone of your message should be neutral wherever possible.

        - Please be aware of your phrasing. Text-based messages do a poor job of conveying tone and emotion.
How you word your post can directly affect how people respond.
        - Avoid typing in all caps. THIS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING.

6. Use an informative title.

The title of a post can attract readers if it is engaging, relevant, and informative.  Conversely, if the title is vague, confusing, or inflammatory, it can cause forum-goers to ignore the post.  Please try to have your post titles in the first category.  This rule is lenient when it comes to off-topic or comedic titles but only when posted in the correct section of the forum.

        Good titles:
        - Digging walls: Small Digger vs. Dynamite?
        - How to combat Slugs
        - LEGO Racers keeps crashing
        - Modding Research slowed?
        - I remastered the Lego Battles soundtrack in FLAC

        Bad titles:
        - WOW!! Slimy Slugs sux!!!
        - I want to figure out how to combat lava monsters but for some weird reason that I’m not totally sure about they only stay on lava and my raiders don’t want to shoot them help!
        - You won’t believe what happened next! [ROCK RAIDERS ON UNSUPPORTED SOFTWARE!]
        - 𝕋𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕚𝕤 𝕒𝕘𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕤𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕣𝕦𝕝𝕖𝕤. 𝕄𝕒𝕪𝕓𝕖 𝕀 𝕤𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕𝕟'𝕥 𝕦𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕥𝕚𝕥𝕝𝕖.

7. Don’t “Cross-Post.”

        - If you haven’t gotten a response to your post, don’t repost it across multiple forums/threads.
        Instead, try to be patient.
        - If you don’t have an answer to your question for a prolonged period:
        - Check if your thread is in the correct place and if it follows the guidelines that are outlined here.
        - Your post may not have an answer if its subject is complex and not enough time has passed.
        - Your post has not been seen yet, possibly because it was posted during a period when many other threads were started.  You may “Bump” it once.
        - The only exception to this rule is if your post would fit into an old thread.  You may add your message within that thread.

8. Obey the original poster- or creator’s wishes.

If the creator asks you not to post something, it is best not to do so, even if the content is a collaboration.

        - This includes files, messages, and any other form of content.
        - If required and possible, post a link to the source.
        - Give credit where credit is due.
        - Illegally obtained content is not an exception to this rule.
Do not share content you obtained or believe may have been obtained from an illegitimate source.
Rock Raiders United does not condone piracy.

9. Do not post illegal material.

Due to the complexity of this rule, it can sometimes be challenging to decide whether something is allowed.
If you are unsure or have questions, please contact an administrator or ask about it in the feedback section.
Links or uploads may be removed at the request of the original copyright holder through a DMCA request at any time.

        - This includes files, messages, and any other form of content.
        - Posting demos, freeware, and trials are allowed.
        - Do not post keygens, serial keys, cracks, or tell people how to bypass software protections.
        - You can post content to fix bugs, make improvements, or provide missing content.
Please make sure that any modifications that you share to copyrighted content are sufficiently original and always use your best judgment before including unmodified copyrighted files - and, if you decide to include such files, do so sparingly.  Please don’t use this exception as an excuse for piracy.
        - Providing code or sample files for educational content, such as tutorials, is allowed within reason.
        - Writing tools to use or modify copyrighted content is allowed so long as it follows the rules above.

10. Quote sparingly.

Quote brief excerpts from previous posts, enough to orient the reader.  Long quotes end up cluttering threads and are a chore to read.

# How to Report Posts

The moderation staff does its best to identify and remove rule-breaking posts.  However, there are only so many of us and we cannot be everywhere all at once.  Because of this, we would ask for the community’s help in making us aware of posts and threads that violate our Core Rules and posting etiquette guidelines.

        What Should Be Reported?

Any thread or post that violates our rules (see above).  Not completely sure if a post does violate the rules?  Use your best judgment.  The moderation staff will assess any reported content and decide whether it does violate the rules.

In addition to this, if a user has committed a crime or is actively engaging in criminal activity, such as grooming, harassment of any kind, or inappropriate requests to or behavior toward minors, please report the user.  The safety of this forum is our top priority.  If you are to submit such a report, please provide as many details as possible.  If you report a user based on a rumor without any substantiating evidence, we will not be able to act.  Accusations of criminal activity are extremely serious, therefore we ask reports of such activity be made with as much evidence as possible.  If you see something, please, please say something.

        How to Report

If you identify any rule-breaking content, the next step is to make the moderation staff aware of it.  The quickest, easiest way to do this is to use the “Report Post” button at the top right-hand corner of each post.

When you click to report a post, you will be brought to a form that you can provide details about why you feel the content violates the rules or is worth the moderation team taking a look at it.  Once you’ve filled the form out, go ahead and submit it.  Submitted reports go to each and every administrator and moderator.

We would encourage all users to use the report feature itself to flag potentially rule-violating content.  Direct messages to administrators and moderators (either through the website or some other medium) can easily be lost or unseen.  Using the officially supported reporting feature is the best way to make sure the moderation team is alerted to the report.  Of course, if you deem a report to be time sensitive and require immediate attention, you are welcome to reach directly out to the moderation team after having submitted a report.

What to Include in a Report

A report submitted to the moderation team should include your reasoning as to why the content reported is a subject for moderation.  It is helpful to indicate which rule you feel the content violates.  If the content reported is text, it’s always a good idea to quote the specific passage.

Do not use the reporting feature to report posts that contain opinions you disagree with.  If you do this consistently, the moderation team may issue you warning points for abusing the report feature.

What Happens After a Report is Submitted

Submitted reports make their way to the report center where they are reviewed by the moderation team.  If the moderation staff deems the report accurate and actionable, they will take the necessary steps to moderate the content reported.  Moderation can take many forms - it can be as simple moderator posting in the reported thread to remind users of the rules or as serious as an irrevocable ban.  The moderator team will use their best judgment alongside established guidelines to determine what action is appropriate given the nature of the violation.

Due to the nature of moderation, it may not always be obvious what action is taken and when.  If you have reported content and are not sure whether action was taken, you are welcome to follow up with the moderation team after an appropriate amount of time has passed, say a few days.  The moderation staff may not always be able to share all of the details of the action taken but will endeavor to be as open and transparent as possible.

        Importance of Reports

Every report and the actions taken as a result of a report (such as the banning of a member) are recorded in the site’s reporting system.  Reports are an important way for the moderation staff to create a record of a rule-violating member’s behavior and be able to reference it in the future.  The ability to do both of these things is essential to the work the moderation team does.

More than that, reports are one of the best ways the community can become involved with keeping the site a safe and secure place for all members.  The moderation staff relies heavily on the vigilance of the community to help make RRU a place new and old members alike continue to return to.
