LEGO Magazines!
Quisoves Potoo and 3 others reacted to emily for a topic
Double post and topic revival?!? QUICK EVERYONE THROW THINGS AT TAZAKK So we know a lot about the US and UK LEGO magazines, and thanks to Dark_Turtle we know a fair amount about the German ones. But what about Canada? Let's go way, way back (okay, not that far back) to 1978. Like other early LEGO magazines, Design News began as a newsletter unaffiliated with any LEGO Club - that just didn't exist yet, disregarding Samsonite's 'unofficial' club from 1963. Since it was a Canadian publication, it had a separate title for French users, Innovations (this roughly translates to "Innovations" in English). Assuming Bricklink's catalog is complete, the newsletter dropped off in 1987, and came back as an eight-page magazine in 1990. At this point, someone also realized that "Innovations" meant the same thing in both languages and made it the absolute title. In 1994 when Brick Kicks became MANIA magazine in the US, Canada followed suit, but due to the need to publish in both French and English, much of the text from the US versions of MANIA was cut out (compare this to this). I recently snatched up an issue of LEGO Club Innovations on eBay. I was honestly expecting to find evidence that it contained mostly the same content as Brick Kicks, but instead I found a lot of evidence otherwise. Innovations has its own mascots, Billy Brick and Bridget, and a focus on sharing member content and informing readers of LEGO events around the country. This focus, in addition to the magazine's layout and other details like the president's letter, makes the issue strongly reminiscent of pre-1994 issues of Bricks n' Pieces, so presumably both magazines were handled by the same publisher. The issue is also limited to a mere eight pages, ranking it with Brick Kicks as one of the smaller LEGO Magazines. I'll put this into the first post eventually, but for now here are the links: ">Page 1 ">Page 2 ">Page 3 ">Page 4 ">Page 5 ">Page 6 ">Page 7 ">Page 84 points -

Allegedly .fnt is some sort of font format. I suggest you find a bitmap font viewing program.2 points -
Early Draft Of The LEGO Movie?

Okay, I have now (unintentionally) made a discovery which establishes the legitimacy of this script beyond a doubt. Tonight I was searching around the web for old concept art for The LEGO Movie when I came across these pieces of art. (I linked these in RRU chat and jamesster pointed out to me that) These pieces of art support the detail of the Octan tower being located in a volcano, a detail which was present in the early script but which was subsequently scrapped in the final movie. The fact that these scrapped details were indeed present in this piece of concept art therefore confirms this script as the genuine real deal. http://www.simplyscripts.com/2014/03/15/the-lego-movie-script/ http://www.screenplaydb.com/film/scripts/lego.pdf Whoa. Is this seriously legit? It certainly fits the early descriptions we heard of the movie, with Emmet being a descendant of these ancient Master Builder people (http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/03/14/lord-miller-talk-lego-movie), and the title being "LEGO: The Piece of Resistance" (http://www.slashfilm.com/phil-lord-chris-miller-offer-title-plot-details-warner-bros-lego-movie/). There's also this: http://writetoreel.com/forum/showthread.php?4895-REQUEST-quot-The-Lego-Movie-quot-(2014)-script&p=18486&viewfull=1#post18486 I've signed up for the forum but my account isn't approved yet so I can't download the file, but it's the same size as the one previously linked to. So unless it's something different that just happens to be the same size, that would date this draft to September 27, 2010 (the movie started development in 2008). Here's an analysis of it: http://www.filmdivider.com/the-lego-movie-we-didnt-see-with-indiana-jones-harry-potter-and-a-love-of-kubrick/ Sources: Simply Scripts1 point -

Awww, he's so cute like lolz you should totes register him as a real pet and attack any1 who touches him.. hes like so cutest!!one!1 [/extensive_sarcasm] Oh wow. And this too. *scrolls down to the bottom of the first page* Implications of LHC results for TeV-scale physics? What's that got to do with a bunch of Lego bricks? And I was 0% surprised to find that 'Clom' is something from Dr. Who. EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doctor_Who_planets This sounds remarkably like Doctor Who to me. Someone has TOO MUCH TIME on their hands. Bravo! You have managed to bring Doctor Who into the discussion. Granted, it wasn't very hard, but I appreciate it nonetheless. I honor you with the Frobisher award. EDIT: I didn't actually mention Jimbob's creation. How rude of me. Gary is as mad as a box of frogs. And all the better for it. I'm glad to see the Mixel pieces getting a lot of good, creative use. The eye pieces, while so simple, are also remarkably effective. In short, multo bene! I'd give you an award, if I could just think of a sufficiently insane one.1 point -

When I saw his name was Gary, I thought It was going to be a snail... I did too. Looks good, Jimbob! Everyone has already touched on the points, so I will say this: clever use of the 360 tutorial you wrote. Do I need to make a trip to England and take away all your Kragle?1 point -

Found a review of the screenplay, confirming it's from 2010: http://scriptshadow.net/screenplay-review-the-lego-movie/ Also just finished reading the screenplay for myself. Wow, that was really quite something. Different enough from the final movie that I actually found myself envisioning things completely different from what the final movie ended up looking like, it was really surreal.1 point -
Explosion causes crash

This mod can make dynamite more stable so your game doesn't crash as often: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> I don't know why LRR doesn't like dynamite or sonic blasters. I think it has to do with the transparency effects it uses which reliably crash the game when I try to mess with them.1 point -

Fascinating. It's interesting to see how various ideas evolved. One of the more amusing elements I've seen so far is Neckbeard (an early bodiless incarnation of Metalbead) being Lucy/Wildstyle's boyfriend. EDIT: It didn't take long for me to find a plethora of much zanier things that never saw the light of day. A bullfighting tennis court, anyone? I wonder if some ambitious (and fabulously wealthy) brickfilmer will attempt to recreate this in some capacity?1 point -

The LEGO Movie Sequel
Quisoves Potoo reacted to Ben24x7 for a topic
Hurrah... I'm so looking forward to waiting Three more YEARS... yaaaaaaaayyyyiieeeeeeee.... (* )_(* ) Now, I DO know it takes a long while to make a Movie (especially a detailed one with brilliant renders) but I also don't think it is a good idea to start with the main characters battling against Duplo. I can only guess that small children who watch characters beating up Duplo bricks and people will possibly cause those children to give up Duplo and become in favour of... ...Well, NON-Duplo bricks. This could be a stupid idea coming from me but apart from that there isn't much to continue. Time for spoilers to explain what I mean (Thanks to le717 whom helped, thanks): Anyways, those are my thoughts on this. --Ben24x7--1 point
