Let's Make a Game
MaelstromIslander and 2 others reacted to Ben24x7 for a topic
Idle: Sorry to double post, but I noticed something about the game; When you hold 'A' to go Left, then you hold 'D' the RR will go Right. BUT When you hold 'D' to go Right, then you hold 'A' in an attempt to go Left, the RR will keep going Right. I don't know if its a bug but I don't think the character should even be moving if both direction buttons are held. Maybe, if possible, you could code it so that when the player holds both 'A' and 'D' that the RR stops/stays still?3 points -

Will it be Green with Red stemmed White Flowers with Glasses and a long torso? *Joke about Infoperiac* I meant to say Boomba, but instead i said goomba. Yes, they're called boombas, because they look like bombs. (The red flying one is called a Kaboomba because it has dynamite as its main weapon) And yes, how could i leave out an infoderpiac reference Edit: Done. "And, you can change flowers!" Edit: Done with the infoboombiac. It took a long time to make and i still don't like how it turned out.3 points -
Bring your LEGO to Life

VideoGamer.com brings us word of another new LEGO title, this one angled toward competing with the likes of Skylanders, where you can buy a LEGO model in order to unlock related parts of the game. Nothing else is known at this point, but it seems possible that this is related to the LEGO/Nexon partnership game we heard about a while ago. Sources: VideoGamer.com2 points -

Just thought I'd post a bit of concept art I tossed together yesterday using a couple of WIP elements I am working on. Everything is put together is layers, allowing for a parallax camera movement (where the background moves slower that the foreground). I blurred the background and extreme foreground to simulate a depth of field effect. I also made the greadient sky and a small vignette it give it some style. The grass is not done yet. I just painted that grass on in photoshop, I have yet to create an actual grass texture (I have an idea of how I need to do it, but still need to try it out). The flowers are not done yet. All feedback is appreciated.2 points -

Let's Make a Game

"Oh no, not another one of these topics". Before you make any presumptions about this topic, I want to make two things abundantly clear: 1) Forget the stigma. The justice system generally works as "innocent until proven guilty", not "guilty until proven innocent". Unfortunately there seems to be a mentality around RRU that any large project will not be completed, and while this is quite often true, approaching this particular topic with such a pessimistic view isn't going to do any favours. See this topic as innocent until proven guilty, a.k.a. destined to succeed until proven a failure. 2) Let me define "game". When I say game here, I'm talking at its most basic technicality, let's make a game featuring a character who can move and jump, maybe swing a sword too. Let's not even consider making more than one level, in fact let's not consider making a fully-functioning first level. When I say "game", I mean let's produce a bare-bones interactive project we can be proud of. Forget your AAA games, forget even your Indie games. I'm thinking of a toddler's drawing in comparison to a Da Vinci masterpiece. Alright, with that out of the way, I have a proposal for RRU. Let's make a small game together! Let's make a little character who can move and jump, and if we get far enough, maybe even have them able to attack or interact with an environmental object. To reiterate above, I'm talking about the basic mechanics of a game, don't think about anything beyond a character and small environment. Interested? We'd need a few different roles to be filled: Designer Someone to decide what the game will do. Will it be a top-down game where a square floats around a tiled board? Or a front-on side-scrolling platformer where a character jumps about? Programmer - JimbobJeffers I'll happily fill this role. This person will program the mechanics of the game, making the character actually do what the designer wants. For those interested, I'd be working in Flash as I'm very familiar with it and have programmed several different types of games in the past. Artist - Aokpisz, Ben24x7, MaelstromIslander, rioforce The artist will design the visuals of the game. They'd draw the character, or the square, but they probably wouldn't animate it. They'd also draw the environment. Animator - Ben24x7, MaelstromIslander Animates the character and anything else that moves. This person breathes life into the artist's work. Musician - Drill Master, Shadowblaze Some music in the background to complement the game, no matter how small it may be, would be great to liven it up. SFX - JimbobJeffers, rioforce, Xiron The audial feedback for the player, while not necessary, definitely makes the experience much more engaging. Would anyone be interested in this project? Play Now! Thanks Mael, I'll get to work adding those new animations in. For those that didn't see it in the shoutbox, I've put together the current assets into something with basic function. Move left and right with A and D or the arrow keys, the coins will add to your score. Check it out in the first post!1 point -
RRU Minecraft Server
Drill Master reacted to Jimbob for a topic
To help with us moderators and our moderatin', could players who change their Minecraft usernames please alert us whenever you do? PM or posting, here or on the RRUCraft forum, is fine. While the server does automatically update its whitelist due to the recent UUID system, it doesn't actually notify us of username changes unless we are in-game with you at the same time. Being lost is part of surviving. Exactly, I've made the new Survival server as Survival-y as it can be. Daylight cycles and no coordinates for example were included because they make in-game items such as the clock and compass actually useful.1 point -

Can I just point out a major complaint about the lack of the coordinates being visible on the survival server? Just knowing they aren't there makes me feel lost on the map even if I know where I am.1 point -

I just tried to do the rotation right now; I encountered a lot of issues, like the coin turning lower quality and the numbers going backwards. It'll just have to go up and down for now. Edit: I'm done.1 point -

Let's Make a Game

After an hour (roughly) of trying to make a character that was A. Original, B. Not too Stereotypical and C. Not Shameful Self-advertising (A.K.A using my own characters which were created before this project was proposed). The other problem reoccurring with the character creation is that since the story (and the "stage" for the character to preoccupy) hasn't been developed yet, if not at all, then it makes the design of the character harder because you need to make the character look like they "fit in" to their surroundings, but then sometimes the enviroment the character preoccupies is made AFTER the character creation. Stimuli messes everything up, that's for sure. So, because I can't think of designs for the protagonist, for now the main character will be a Rock Raider; This is a temporary fix, once I can understand what the game is like, I'll do a proper character. Sorry for now...1 point -

I started work on updating the visual on some of the content and I wanted to show off the before and after: As you can see the right is way more defined and the models are higher quality, though the majority of the 3D mesh is still the same. I'm also doing Ambient Occlusion where ever possible, the effect can be best seen on the Chainsaws (The shadowing effect).1 point -
