Track viewer/editor (skb/pwb)
Mister Shoulders and 12 others reacted to grappigegovert for a topic
Track editor When the BMP format was finally cracked, I wanted to make a new GDB viewer that showed textures, and using WillKirkby's LibLR1 that wasn't too hard. But why not an editor? So here is my track editor! Current features: - View GDB files (3D objects), with textures. - View and edit SKB files (Skyboxes). - View and edit PWB files (Powerups). - View RRB files (AI paths). - View the static object part of WDB files. Planned: - Edit RRB files (AI paths) - (partially) View and edit WDB files (Static/animated objects). - View and edit startup positions and checkpoints Known bugs: - Dragging bricks acts weird from certain angles - Semi-transparent textures only work in native LR bitmaps, and are not yet depth-sorted. NOTE: You need to have XNA Framework 4.0 installed, otherwise the application will crash. Download: http://www.rockraidersunited.com/files/lego-racers-1/tools/track-editor-12-r59/ Current version: v1.2.0.365 New in this version: (full changelog included in download) Let me know what you think! Massive thanks to WillKirkby, for making LibLR1 and the original GDB_viewer and to Sluicer for helping with both GDB and BMP file formats.13 points -

The ending to this video made me realize how much Frozen could have benefited from replacing Olaf with a skeleton. "Oh, what's this? We're in the middle of a tense scene where one of us is dying, and all these rock trolls are interrupting the story just to sing a stupid comic relief song that should have been left on the cutting room floor to improve this movie's pacing? I'll just SCREEEAAAAMM!!! at them, and they'll all turn back into rocks and roll away in fear! There we go, problem solved!"3 points -

Which Weapon Or Defense Item, Do You Think Is The Most Useless?
fun reacted to Phoenyx for a topic
Pusher beam. Low damage output, pushes monsters away making them harder to hit. I feel that the Freezer Beam redeems itself by instant-killing lava monsters. As for the Sonic Blaster... if you can get it to work, it's pretty much THE solution to slugs. Another weapon I'd like to add to this list is the stationary Mining Laser. Simply put, there is NO reason to build this worthless piece of scrap. If you need a mining laser, teleport down a LMLC. It costs less (only a few ECs instead of a few ECs AND ore), does the same damage when upgraded, and you can tell it to go wherever you want. Or better yet, just use your Chrome Crushers as tanks. If I ever get back to working on Fronteer Miners, I'll probably do away with the Mining Laser and just make the SMLC and LMLC a bit more expensive.1 point -

Since all of the local composers came out of the brickwork, maybe each of you should make a sample track of what you think would fit the mood of this game. It doesn't have to be a full track, just enough to get an idea.1 point -

Cough cough. No need to be all imprudent about it. You aren't the only composer on RRU, you know. Others may want a chance to compose for this too. You're right, everyone deserves a chance. Sorry.1 point -

I'm a bit conflicted with this project. I have mad, absolute respect for anybody who has worked on LEGO games, especially given their strict standards (and the fact that even in the late 90s 3D-games were difficult). At the same time, I've seen some major issues crop up during the past two years of theory and ideas. I think my biggest issue is the proposal itself. I'm a bit confused on how this is intended to work; are we just submitting content to go towards a full game? Are we applying for contracts? Is this a community design/develop thing that will be sold if it works out? I mean, upon reading your last post, I guess things have changed, but my point still stands; how is it that we can get involved if we did want to be involved? Another thing that confuses me is this game's unique pitch; I'm not sure what Rock Raiders 2 has for it that would set it aside from games like Minecraft. Rock Raiders had a very unique atmosphere which I enjoyed (there was a certain quiet, creepy desolation that made the tense lava chases more tense, the boat rides more calm and relaxing, and the exploring really fun). I also really liked the grid-based design, seeing as it makes certain gameplay elements slightly more predictable, while also adding challenge towards construction and approaching hazards. I feel a voxel game with over-bright colours would lose the things that made Rock Raiders stand out (especially given that LegoRR didn't really rely on its LEGO assets). To be blunt, if I were to join in on this, it'd be for the thrill of working in a larger-scale development that what I'm currently doing, and because I would like to see some of the experiences I had as a kid returned in a modern form. I'm just not completely sold that the direction has been set. I also have high doubts that this will appeal on the same scale as games like Minecraft; I'm sure a large audience exists, but I don't think this game should be made for popularity. It's a bit tough to be making a sequel to a very niche game, particularly when you have to strip away that big "LEGO" title that guarantees the sales. The key, at this point, would be to focus on why people would want to return to Planet U, and what a new sequel is capable of offering a modern audience. It's not my place to force my ideas onto projects like these, so I leave those questions for you to consider. I'm going to continue to reserve full judgement until more comes out about this. I'm sure others here have their own thoughts that will probably conflict with mine. I'd like to stay positive for once, since at least you've shown that you can release games (and decent ones at that, particularly since we're all gathered here because of one of your games).1 point -

Who said that? - Polaris McJobless did. I added a signature to his post to make it a bit more obvious, but perhaps it wasn't obvious enough: Perhaps we should experiment with more obvious signatures to avoid future confusion. - jamesster On the topic of this project, I'm just a hobbyist, as are most other members. While many here (including myself) are already working on their own hobby projects, some are even working on games professionally. But obviously, I can't speak for everyone.1 point -

Having problems with IXS? Try enabling VSync (also, Anti-Aliasing)
lukas.tcn reacted to lol username for a topic
A while back, in another topic, intrepidowl mentioned that he was able to force VSync on Island Xtreme Stunts in his graphics control panel, to fix its framerate issue: This can fix quite a lot of issues the game may have - broken physics, extremely sensitive skateboard grinding, boats and airplanes breaking the game, Wave Catcher being nearly unplayable, etc. Other things to try include enabling compatibility mode and running without a disc. Another nice little thing you can enable while you're in the graphics control panel is enabling anti-aliasing, which IXS doesn't normally have. The details of doing this depend on what sort of video card you have, just poke around and see what you find.1 point -
