    LEGO Island 2 Beta on PS1 "discovered" (IMAGE HEAVY)

    Those active right now have probably seen it already, but for those who might read this thread in the future - PeabodySam just earlier today reuploaded a video with beta footage of the PC version: The same change to the Castle Island sky was made on PC; the dark clouds were toned down, there's more orange.

    YESSSS. So good to see this again, thank you! ... Did the player just land the pterodactyl in a random place in the clip at 2:36? And there's no landing pad near the gas station like there is in the final game, either... Were you originally able to land flying vehicles/creatures anywhere...? I can see how that'd lead to plenty of bugs with landing in awkward places, but dang, the landing pads were one of my main gripes when playing the game as a kid, haha. Edit: The helipad at the jail is also not there in this footage, here's a comparison with the model from the final game: And a comparison with the clip featuring the pterodactyl: So yeah, I'm pretty sure landing pads were a fairly late addition to the game... Heh, it's the opposite of the first game, where the helipad texture was removed and we've only seen it in beta screenshots (and the game intro): http://www.lugnet.com/pause/techzone/games/legoisland/ Oh! Also interesting to see how the sky in Castle Island changed from this beta video to the final game, getting less dark - the same change happened on PS1, see the end of this post:

    LEGO Island 2 Beta Video

    "I've got good news, and I've got better news! Which would you like to hear first?" Like Terrev mentioned, I've had this LEGO Island 2 rolling demo CD for years. I also haven't seen it in that same number of years. But lo and behold, when I went looking for it this morning, I somehow found it in the very first place I looked! Because it's apparently so rare that there's no documentation of it on the internet, I decided to take plenty of pictures and screenshots for posterity's sake. Therefore, this post will be image-heavy, but I'll spare people scrolling through this topic by stuffing the images into spoiler tags. Photographs of the CD and the sleeve it came in: Screenshots of the menus: The "Intro Movie" trailer is the same thing we've seen before: the intro movie with "Make-A-D-Pizza" and "LEGO Island" music instead of what is heard in the final product. And now, for what you were waiting for: the reuploaded "Game-play Footage" trailer! A few more interesting tidbits: The video files have December 15, 2000 (Intro Movie) and December 20, 2000 (Game-play Footage) as the "Date modified". The folders and DXR files on the CD have January 15, 2001 as the "Date modified". This is the latest date that appears in any of the CD's files.

    A few questions on models/animations

    @RingtailI love you! ♥ Yep, they're the VLP (very low poly) models, instead of the LP/MP/HP models I was expecting. They are incredibly sad looking. Well, I've got more of a plan to import these now, and at least I can see a RR walk: http://i.imgur.com/J0okwwL.gifv (ignore the missing polys and jerky animation.) Now I need to actually go about doing this programmatically and replacing the nulls. Oh joy, what a lot of "fun" stuff to do! Thanks. I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future.

    [Tool] Extract Mesh from *_nxg.ghg and *_nxg.gsc

    There are a lot of different versions of these files. Some might work, some might not. I never tried to extrall 'all' files. In the newest files there are no textures included and I currently focus on the newer files. But uv-maps should be contained in the obj files. Some of the files have two uv-sets (normal map), but since obj is not capable of that I can not extract both. If you have a file that is not working just name it and I could give it a closer look when I have it.
