Run LEGO Rock Raiders with dgVoodoo

I was about to give up but I managed to play it without the weird white black errors, game is now running flawlesly, it saves, and plays at full speed, I still cannot believe it I managed it on win 10 with AMD. I already wanted to buy some old Thinkpad laptop with Win XP so I could play this game again.... the prices of these things are suprisingly low. To fix this, I had to change one thing in the dgvoodoo - Output API in General tab - change it to "Direct3d 11 (feature level 10.0)" and voila, suddenly it worked without trouble. DONT leave it at "best available". This will probably not help you much, but reinstall from scratch, follow this guide to the letter (BUT MAKE SURE TO INSTALL THE LATEST dgvoodoo 2.62), and then, always change one thing in the dgVoodoo, try to run it, if it does not work try again changing another setting, and again run it... It took me whole week but there are so many specifics that can work on different machines. And donĀ“t forget the D3D9.dll, it may not make a difference but try every possible fix one by one, there are many fixes described on the forum.2 points -

Hello All, I got my copy of lego rr off of my abandonware, unfortunately I am having troubles with this guide, after having installed the game and following the directions to the letter, when I try to open the application it just shows me a 640x480 resolution of whatever is on screen and then the application closes a few seconds after opening. If anyone could help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.2 points -

Thank you so much for having made this guide! The game works and the graphics do as well! However, my game doesn't seem to save any progress I make, so every time I close the game and want to open it again, all progress has been lost Is there a fix for this? EDIT: Scratch that, I was an idiot and had forgotten the game doesn't autosave but that I have to press save myself ^^''1 point -

You need to own the actual game to follow this tutorial, the installer you downloaded is just an alternative for the game's included installer. Either way you need a copy of the game.1 point -

You're correct in the file name and the file location, buuuuuut.... @Phil Gaimz, I've uploaded them to RRU - unzip, place in Data\Sounds\Streamed and you should be good to go.1 point -

It does now. v1.1.1 of the installer automatically installs the version of the DLL used in this guide. (I've been meaning to fix that for literal years but never have so I went ahead and did it)1 point -

Hmmm, I had the same black screen issue, but it was vsync that fixed it for me. Leave it with me. The cutscenes were on the disc and originally were played from the disc. However, you can get them back, download them here: https://www.rockraidersunited.com/files/dl-r296/. Extract them to your Data\Avi\ folder. Note you might need to do the manual install of this (in ReadMe) https://www.rockraidersunited.com/files/lego_rock_raiders/resources/indeo-iv50-avi-codec-r111/ if you're missing the codec. Send me the patch exe via PM and I'll see what it does.1 point -

No problem, glad it's got it working for you ? Two things to try for that issue: 1. Ensure VSYNC is being forced in dgVoodoo (checkbox in the DirectX tab, at the bottom) 2. Try a different emulated graphics card in dgvoodoo (also in the Directx tab) Let me know how you go. BTW: Nice to see another aussie around.1 point -

@Cyrem Hey i would just like to say thank you sooo much for this and all your hard work!! youre a legend mate!! Just a heads up the tutorials dont work. they start just fine but i think because they are scripted the screen goes black and im unable to do anything. the menus and the on screen controls are still there as well as the music and sound but the actual area where everything happens is black. i dont know if this happens outside of the tutorials.1 point -

Run Lego Rock Raiders on Ubuntu 17.10
Cyrem reacted to Taeir for a guide
I managed to get the game working under wine without playonlinux. 1. First install wine and winetricks: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install wine32 winetricks 2. Then run the following commands: export WINEPREFIX="/home/YOURUSERNAME/.wineprefixes/legorr/" export WINEARCH="win32" mkdir -p /home/YOURUSERNAME/.wineprefixes/legorr/ winetricks corefonts 3. Next, cd to the Lego Rock Raiders CD 4. Run the setup with wine: wine Setup.exe 5. Just install normally. Be sure to install DirectX and direct media. 6. Copy d3drm.dll: cp PATH_TO_D3DRM.DLL /home/YOURUSERNAME/.wineprefixes/legorr/dosdevices/c:/Program\ Files/LEGO\ Media/Rock\ Raiders/d3drm.dll You will have Rock Raiders shortcuts on your desktop to start the game. It is also possible to start it directly (useful for running e.g. cafeteria) env WINEPREFIX="/home/YOURUSERNAME/.wineprefixes/legorr/" wine /home/YOURUSERNAME/.wineprefixes/legorr/dosdevices/c:/Program\ Files/LEGO\ Media/Games/Rock\ Raiders/LegoRR.exe For me, the game runs very well. There are some minor graphical problems, namely that transparent overlays are not rendered (e.g. when you select a tile, or when you give orders to drill a wall, you don't see that). The game is perfectly playable without this, but it can be a bit annoying (e.g. when trying to build something). Some effects like smoke from lava turn white or green but are still visible. NOTE: Sometimes, after exiting the game, the resolution stays on 640x800. You can change it back to the correct resolution with nvidia x server settings (or a reboot also does the trick)1 point -

Are you attempting to run the cop-protected version of LRR? You can check by seeing if the LegoRR.icd file is more than 0kb. If it is copy protected, it won't run without explicitly allowing your system to allow the safedisc driver to run each time you run the game, you can than Microsoft for removing it's support. It is however easier to just located a copy of a newer re-release of the game which has no such protection. If you a keen to push ahead with the copy protected version, read the latter half of this guide - https://www.rockraidersunited.com/guides/lego-rock-raiders/lrr-windows-10-setup-guide-safedisc-version-r4/1 point -

I'm currently struggling with trying to get it to launch. The issue I'm currently having is that when I try to launch it, I have Primary Display Driver, and two Devices, but in screen modes there are no supported screen modes, in windowed or full-screen. Any help would be much appreciated. For quick reference, Full screen says no supported screen modes, and windowed says no supported 32 bit modes found. EDIT: I completely missed a step. Yes, in windowed mode the game behaves properly. I tried using a .bat file with the text... taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe LegoRR.EXE Start explorer.exe but it didn't resolve the issue. I probably could manually close explorer.exe each time, but opening the task manager is much simpler. Thanks anyway though!1 point -

No need to search on Google. The Alternative Installer(s) were created by @le717 a member here, the topic for these are: https://www.rockraidersunited.com/topic/3904-lego-media-alternate-installers/ Just a note for readers: I could be wrong (I haven't checked) but the DLL used in the installer is the same one used in this guide. There are many versions of the DLL, but some simply do not work. So it's good to get the correct one. I've nearly finished the fix for the game music, just ironing out a last issue.0 points -

Thanks for making this tutorial! I am unfortunately experiencing an issue shared by a few in threads detailing this method where when I click LegoRR.exe nothing happens. I re downloaded all the required files from the links you posted and followed your instructions to the letter. I have long since lost my childhood copy of this game and had to resort to downloading it from the isozone and mounted it using virtual clone drive. My folder setup is identical to yours save for the uninstall option where instead of unins000.exe and unins000.dat I have uninst.isu. Does this mean that my copy of the game or installation won't work with this method? I've tried this method using a game folder in program files (x86) and one on the desktop in case there was an issue with administrator permissions but both have the same issue.0 points
