So in the box of my 4930 set which I got today there was an advertisement for the PC Game. I see the scans below:

Front:

Back:

Close-up BETA shot 1:

Close-up BETA shot 2:

Points I gathered from these shots:

- 'Jet' was used instead of standard RR skin.

- 'Back' button icon is different.

- GUI is the old style

- Crystals are not green

- "LegoStripped2 Jan 19 1999" "15:05:14" ?

- Activity is showing.

- Not sure about this, but the support station roof looks different.

- Cracked ground?

No idea about the "LegoStripped2" part, but "Jan 19 1999" is probably the date on which the demo was done, and "15:05:14" is probably the time in 24-hr (military) time format. In 12-hr format, this would be 3:05:14pm. And I wish there was SOME way we could revive this old GUI. In some ways I like it better than the released GUI. Best would be a hybrid between the two.

Thats ODD... the crystals are green in the picture, but in the game, they're some blueish white color. Also, the Beta didn't have the same power path rules as the released version did. There are other pictures of the beta somewhere...

Also, too bad the Jet skin doesn't still exist. That would have been funny to see a bunch of Jets running around.

Notice how the crystal in the second closeup is the unused high-poly model. I can't tell if it's transparent or not, but this leaves the question of why they bothered with the low-poly model since they obviously had a better one in production. If they did it solely for the glow effects then that's silly since nowhere in the cutscenes do the crystals visibly glow. They're merely transparent. Maybe it has something to do with polycount but come on, half of the stuff in this game has less than 800 a piece, and that's for the complex vehicles.

*checks HP crystal polycount* Well I'll be darned, it has 688. It's not fully optimized but yeah, I see the reasoning. In levels with huge crystal caches some computers at the time would get slowed down or crash. Even with the memory mod I doubt Rocky Horror would be playable once you get to the northern cavern, what with Win98 computers being crap compared to the beasts we use to mod LRR now.

Also I'm taking the green effect off the Track Object View like they have here, along with some other HUD changes now that I have some better pictures of what the old one looks like.

Yeah, the lower poly might have been used for computers that were slower/had less memory, and probably took a lot less time to create, so it was used for in-production testing.

about the odd colour: I think that's just colour distortion caused in the scanning. Everything else has a slight orange tint, so I don't think it actually looked like that.

First two pictures are scanned and the BETA shots are photos.

Right, caused by the photography then :)

Now, somewhat off-topic, "better BETA shots" is annoying for me to pronounce.

So... Wasn't there someone who made Pilot reskins for all the rock raiders?

TONGUE TWISTER!

And yes, reskins have been made for the rockraiders. In fact, I think reskins have been made for EVERY sentient being. And yes, a Pilot skin was made by someone if I remember correctly.

Ahh, I distinctly remember seeing that somewhere before... I probably have one somewhere. If I find it, I'll show it to you guys. Also, is there a place where they scan in old copies of Lego Magazine?

Also, there is more BETA PC Game shots on the back of the PS1 game... (talk about false advertising...)

What I gather from the above statements about the polycount/quality is that they were planning to make a high and low quality display mode for the game, but, as we know production was rushed. GOSH DARN IT I wish we had permission to crack the .exe sometimes...Also, where's the material for the beta GUI? I never saw any of it left over in the WAD the way we see old production tests left over...I guess we need to look for the RR beta somewhere then...

The beta stuff is scattered throughout the Interface folders. Practically everything is there but the way some of the things are set up we'd have to recode the GUIs in order to make them work right. Plus some of the buttons don't even make sense, like there's a Sell button which I assume is to teleport things up since it's a double-helix with stars.

If I ever fix my .cfg, I solemly *cough* promise to rebuilt part of the interface...

What? Why not just get the original CFG and use that?

Check out "Data\Interface\InfoPanel" for stuff you probably already have found. (this is WITH the Data mod)
