Modding save files

So, once again, I had a shot at decoding the save files.

The results were disastrous (no crashes but absolutely no progress save for one thing: the .dat files are actually BMPs which contain those screenshots that you see when loading a save file.)

The WADs are uneditable by the game

I'm guessing you never saved your game or loaded one.

in the saves folder, in your game folder (XP) or AppData (Vista+)

How the HELL are you supposed to save if the game can't write/edit it's own files?

Correct my if I'm wrong, but are the saves NOT in the wad? How can the game NOT edit the wad and still save your progress?

Yes, they are.

Everyone has taken what I said in an incorrect direction, I was speaking of the .dat files

Are they BMPs taken from the WADs, or taken while you're playing in-mission.

I know that the saves are the .sav files, sheesh.

On an unrelated note, you can't transfer saves from one comp to another, it just doesn't work. Dunno why.

So if the game takes a picture of the level, and saves it as a .dat file, how can the game do that and NOT edit the wads?

The saves are NOT STORED IN THE WADS.

The .dat files are saved in the DATA folder, in the SAVES subfolder. NEVER in the wads, even if you do use them.

NOTHING to do with ANY wads.

I hope that's clear enough. xD

Other than that, I found two things: .sav defines level progress and .osf defines your raiders. Now, how to edit them, I have not the faintest clue.

On XP and below:

C:\Program Files\LEGO Media\Games\Rock Raiders\Data\Saves

On Vista and 7:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\LEGO Media\Games\Rock Raiders\Data\Saves

Duuuh. What do you think I did first?

That's how I found out what I know, but I can't find any more info.
