aLPHA
I was playing Portal, the level where you get the companion cube, and I create a portal to make an energy sphere go into a receiver, or whatever it is. The energy sphere hits me and the game freezes up. I couldn't click or do anything. The entire computer screen then went black, but the back light stayed on. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del but nothing happened. I tried the power button but it didn't shut off. I then pulled the plug and took out the battery. Later, I went to play Portal and When I went to launch it from the shortcut it signed me into steam and then quit. I tried again, getting th same reaction. I then started it form the Steam page and got it to go to the valve picture(Guy with faucet nob on back of his head), then the picture after that but then it crashed! (the game did) I tried again, only getting the same thing to happen. Anybody have any ideas on how to get it to work again? P.S: If anyone says to redownload it I will just ignore that idea and post something like (It took me three days to download it and I don't want to go through that again) Fixed it, had to put the default settings. TheDoctor
Epic, exactly how big is what you need to download? I need to know. And H2, just pressing the power button isn't going to cut it. I've set mine so it doesn't do anything when you press it. You have to hold it for about 5 seconds for it to work. Also, your computer is known to be infested with failwhales, so we don't know how to help you. ...but really, 3 days? That's 72 hours, and with a 52, no, 20kb/sec connection, that comes out to... 72 hours = 1728 minutes = 103680 seconds = 2073600KB = just about 2GB. With 52KB/sec, it's a bit more then 4GB. Now, 52kb/sec is nothing. I get around 350kb/sec on a bad day. 900kb/sec on a good day. Your Internet must EPICLY FAIL. Also, stop whining about it here. Like epic said, go complain about it on the portal/valve forums. I hath made a math fail. It really equates out to 72 hours = 4320 minutes = 259200 seconds = 5184000KB = just about 5GB. With 52KB/sec it's 13.5GB. Portal can't be THAT big.
Acmex
Its a 3 gig download. Took me about 5 hours to DL it. And his connection is worse than mine. OK, so Steam manages to DL at about 6 times the rate FF manages. He gets about 50kb/s with "Microwave" internet. Go figure.
aLPHA
Okay, to fix a few things, I did hold it down for about 10 seconds and it did nothing. I also went to the forums just now and epicly, IT HATES MY ACCOUNT I JUST MADE FOR THE FORUM!!! (not my Steam account) Yes, my internet fails. If I felt like it, I could get a 2 Tera-byte connection but It costs $80 a month. (fail) It's a Windows computer and they fail like this. Now I will go sulk in a corner and ponder life, trying to think of the good in it, AGAIN!!!
TheDoctor
Wow. It would take me about 10 minutes on an average day to get portal. And since I normaly get boosted speeds with large files, probably about 5 minutes. H2, microwaves are for making Easy Mac. LRN2802.11g.
Acmex
No, you need to learn that microwaves aren't just those white boxes in your kitchen. Microwaves are a part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and, as such, can be used to transmit data. Most typically used by cell phones, they can also be used for internet connections. Such as H2's. And stop showing off your T3 connection, blast it. Does steam let you reinstall stuff? Try that if you can find the option.

I do not have a T3 connection, I have cox. The router is hocked up to a black box which is conected to the walk with a coaxial cable. And yet somehow I get tops of 1300kb/sec. aLPHA
It's worse for me Joe, I got really far into he game and then this happened. Why are we talking about people's microwave ovens? Go to the off-topic area to talk about them! Could my graphics card have died? I know that if part of it goes bad then it still works, but it can't play the game because the graphics overload it and it crashes.
Anonymouse
Yes, my internet fails. If I felt like it, I could get a 2 Tera-byte connection but It costs $80 a month. (fail) 2TB would be bandwidth, and that has nothing to do with speed. Why are we talking about people's microwave ovens? Go to the off-topic area to talk about them! This is the off-topic area. Of course, I have nothing productive to add to this topic, so sorry about that *leaves*
