Malware

Malware is a tricky subject, with many different forms and ways of accomplishing anguish. The latest one I was called to kill (on the family PC) got into the system volume folder and tri-replicated every file on the hard drive over and over again. A separate file every minute. Withing a week 17.5 gigs disappeared. I found it, killed it and am destroying the duplicate files as we speak. (note that this is not on MY computer, but the virus surfer known as the computer my siblings also use.) I've killed a few annoying viruses in my PC fixing days, but this was by far the strangest one. Share any malware fighting stories/tips/programs here, and lol at my internet illiterate siblings if you wish.

A site that shall remain anonymous has about 200 add that randomly fill the page every 10th time you change the page there. One of them gives you viruses. Twice this happened: Suddenly my internet died and I got a fake virus scan that told you every program can't open because every exe is infected. I termanated it and webroot suddenly said Malware is trying to get into C:\Program Files. Then in the middle of a Sweep, it said the same thing. At the end of the sweep, I found 7 Rouge Security Products. So 7 RSP and 2 Malwares. Twice it happened. I've also gotten 2 3other Malwares blocked from various sites, and something else...

So I've never had a big problem with them really.

I love fixing malware, viruses and spyware! I don't ever get the on my PC but I fix other people's. I enjoy it most when I can remove it manually.

I was once looking over my friend's shoulder when suddenly this malware came out of friggin nowhere and starting messing up his computer. Neither one of us saw where it came from. Anyway, it was doing that classic OMFG NOTHING CAN RUN UR INFECTED OLOLOLO crap and he couldn't run his antimalware program he had.

So here's what happened:

He somehow got the bright idea of opening up the processes menu. When he did, he saw this program that was running that looked suspiciously out of place on the list for all of three seconds. He then bandbox-selected three or four programs on his desktop the malware wouldn't let him run, and started rapidly pressing the enter key. This overloaded the malware (because it was trying to interrupt all those program requests at once) enough to make it show up on the processes screen. When it did, he quickly selected it and END PROCESS. The virus was disabled. spee.

He then ran his antimalware and removed both the malware responsible in addition to another virus or something that also came in at the last second.

How's that for ya?

After finding an required extraction file for sound from a game I have, I unfortuantly got the Interval HeHe virus.

It's a damn little pest, a keylogger that sends information to a German kid. Whats worse is the fact it both changes the homepage to some Japanese 404 Error page, and trying to goto google, it became a fake a Microsoft Antivirus page.

Thanks to Hijack This, I was able to swiftly remove the virus within 15mins of it's download.

I got that same one recently. Good thing it was extremely easy to remove. It was a startup process, so I booted into Safe Mode, found the startup entry, traced that to the exe, then I deleted it. After making sure it didn't rewrite itself I opened up CCleaner and did a Wipe Free Disk Space on Gutsman mode. I've had no problems since.

Malware?

I have an outdated version of my ISP's rebranded software that hasn't been updated since last year.

I run vista.

MY COMPUTER IS TOTALLY SECURE.

Seriously.

I've had all of two viruses, all of which F-Secure shot down.

My dad's desktop has had a pair of Rouge-Security products, but we managed to get rid of them.

As for the other three computers?

Mom's - Won't buy security

Sister's - Won't bother with it

My Desktop - Linux. 'nuff said.

I hate these little boogers of death.

I think on my old computer it had a hidden malware that probably hacked into my software and crapped it up, but i'm not sure.

Otherwise, Malware is the worst invention of the world. It haunts us, and could be striking AS WE SPEAK.

I purchase quality antivirus software and have never had a problem. However, i am fixing my foolish friend's computer all the time. I even have to fix his mac. Those things are a train wreck when not running right.

I look forward to getting viruses, because I use it as an excuse to format my hard drive, and re-install the OS. This makes everything run MUCH faster!

BTW: I back up important stuff, if your wondering.

I back up important stuff, if your wondering.

Two things wrong with that:

A: If my wondering?

B: (Assuming that "your" was meant to be "you're") it implies that you DON'T back up important stuff if we're *not* wondering.

[/nitpick]

Actually, he was IMPLYING you that he would back up important stuff ANYHOW. He was just avoiding an unnecessary question.

Reading emotions over the internet is FUN.

No.

I back up my data if you want to know.

That means that he will back up his data IF you want to know that he backs up his data.

I back up my data of course

would've been more correct.

You guy's need to become Grammar Nazis, then you wouldn't let me get away with incorrect grammar.

I surpass Grammar Nazi, I'm a Grammar Communist.

Anyway, this happened about, 7-8 days ago. My friend had a virus on her computer for like, 3-4 months it was just never activated.

I got it from her, and found out that it's "Trigger," was the Task Manager. All it did was slowly sap the internet away.

I got it, through a flash drive and it made its way onto my PC. I killed it, not as clue where it came from, and I went over there because she was having problems. (I'm free Tech Support to friends and family) I placed in my flash drive to try and clean it up, but I thought it was lost because it placed itself inside my flash drive to hide, until I removed it, and it spread around again, after I went back home. Then, I put my drive into my PC and it popped up again, killed in about 5 seconds. Then I went back there, and killed it by letting it move to the drive, and just turning it off, and unplugging it, then killing it on my PC.

Woo, I am SUPERIOR to all malware of all of it's kinds.
