Custom Music in Roller Coaster Tycoon 1

Yes you can play your own music in Roller Coaster 1 (No expansions needed). So how do you do it? Well locate your game installation directory. Inside there will be a folder called ‘Data’. Inside this folder you will see heaps of .dat files. Some of these dat files are WAV music in disguise.

These .dat files are the game music:

• Css2.dat
  
• Css3.dat
  
• Css4.dat
  
• Css5.dat
  
• Css6.dat
  
• Css7.dat
  
• Css9.dat
  
• Css11.dat
  
• Css13.dat
  
• Css14.dat
  
• Css15.dat
  
• Css17.dat - Menu background music.
  

All you need to do is replace one of these files with your own music file. Most music these days com in MP3 format. To convert it to WAV download Audicity, open your song and save it as a WAV file. Then put it inside the game Data folder and rename to. for example: Css17.dat .

Start the game and tada! Your own music.

I do this in RCT3, but RCT3 plays .WAVs and .MP3s natively, so I just add whatever music I want to it...not really hard for RCT3, but I guess it would be harder to do it for RCT1.
