Cyrem
So I needed to download the latest version of Flash player, So I got to the website etcetera etcetera... First thing, the installer asks you to accept the installation into the browser (of course) which then appears in the add-ons as an Adobe Digital Download Distribution Service. Next the Flash installer will come up and low-and-behold it installs a Mcafee Security application before it installs Adobe Flash. You get no option to OP-OUT of it's installation before hand and no installation cancellation buttons for that product. They are now forcing users to install other companies software against the will of the user. Apparently there is some button on the website to not install it(so some screenshots show...), however I was presented with no such button. This is considered as Malware, but of course, now that security products are on their side they can get away with installing software without user knowledge. Like like DRM in software companies like this are able to cross the line and get away with it. Has anyone else been presented with this?
Eagle98
Yup. The Muckafweeblah program scans. Every. Single. DAY.
Cirevam
I haven't updated Flash in a while so I haven't experienced that specific incident, but, quite similarly, you can't download Quicktime without also downloading iTunes. At least iTunes won't interfere with your computer's performance.

Also, why the hell are you still using proprietary software? [/minor hypocrisy]

Sonic322
I just downloaded it and didn't get that. Although I find it stupid that the Adobe download manager can't ask you to turn off Internet Explorer before it installs flash. Stupid conflicting program error report ended the download and when I retried then it said it was already installed. What are your computer specs? Cyrem
I found two mistakes on my first reading of this. Tired? It was 10:00PM, and I don't care. Also, why the hell are you still using proprietary software? [/minor hypocrisy] Microsoft Windows is proprietary software, as is Adobe Photoshop, Skype (Hey you use that one in a while too!) etc etc... And I needed it because Youtube wouldn't let me view some videos.

Cirevam
I thought Youtube only used Flash for their videos. It does. Cyrem was making a point that pretty much all software is proprietary.

bartvbl
http://www.rockraidersunited.org/index.php?/gallery/image/1263-for-cyrem/ ALWAYS ALWAYS look for these kind of checkboxes. They are indeed the most annoying thing ever created, but you can still opt them out. I don't think it is required to talk about iTunes. apple is crapple, and will always be one big fortress no one may touch or criticise.

TheEPICtrainrider
The way I manage updates is that I put them off until I can find time to download them. I've already skipped 10 new versions of Fire Fox.

Some things that were exploitable in the old version will likely get "fixed" in newer versions.

Cirevam
I've had updates that remove features that I've found useful or break them in some way. Look at Lightwave. Lightwave 8.0 exports LWS correctly. 9.0 does not. The only reason I would install 9.0 is so I could texture models, which I don't care about since I've been using simple colors in mine. Sonic322
I guess that is a good reason. I still say that updating is the safest thing to do.
