Addictgamer
Irt's supposed to start snowing today or tomorrow. What's unusual about that is According to the National Weather Service, the last time we had snow in Sacramento was on January 28, 2002. It was definitely a day to remember for many residents in California with snow down to the valley floor. The early morning started with reports of snow in the Bay Area. Then more reports of snow moving west to the valley. Reports came in steadily to NEWS10 about the strange winter weather. By about 8:15 a.m., downtown Sacramento looked more like the Nations capitol than the State. The snow didn't last long in most places but some areas did record up to an inch or more. Temperatures stayed cold that day and night. In fact, the next morning more snow fell in the Northern San Joaquin Valley. People in Modesto, Turlock, Denair and Delhi reported the winter weather. Snow is not a common occurrence in Sacramento, but if there is snow according to the National Weather Service it typically happens in January. Here are some statistics about previous snow events in Sacramento: the last time we had snow prior to January 28, was February 27, 1996 with a trace recorded. The Last measurable snow was two inches on February 5, 1976. The most snow ever recorded was four inches on January 4-5, 1888. The reason we don't normally see snow is that our temperatures are too warm when winter storms come through the area. Most of the rain we see forms as ice crystals that melt as they encounter warmer air. With temperatures at or close to the freezing mark though, we can get frozen precipitation. I still remember that day back in 2002. Not much fell though; just a millimeter on the roof before it all melted and started hailing and raining again. Imagine this being a little kid: "Mommy, why does the hail look like that?" "That is not hail, it is snow." "Oh boy! I'm going to play outside in the snow!" *Snow stops* "Ow, it is hailing again." TheEPICtrainrider
Yea, people who live in Hot places usually freak out when they see snow. Like a puppy's first winter. And us who have snow are just like "Dude, it's snow..." Of course I imagine it's the same for us and tropical storms.

Anonymouse
Woo, here in Lyon the summers are great and the winters are freezing and snowy! My favourite combination. I just don't like autumn because it's cold but no snow.
