Hi all,

I thought I better introduce myself, since it is not polite to just lurk around here. Reason for joining is that my son found out the modified RR on YouTube and wanted that we try it ourselves. He is 11, so I had to join, since I am well over the required age. In my professional life I have been doing over 15 years of embedded software development for industrial equipment, so I was able to figure out quickly some of the modding techniques. I'm hoping that I can teach my son do the modifications himself, since I do not have much time at home to sit by the PC (I am a mom with household work). We live in Finland, but my son is fluent in English, so he understands everything in the game and can read the forum messages.

Reading the forum has been really helpful and in couple of nights we had added snakes, spiders and scorpions to the game.

Keep up the good work! :satisfied:

Sari

Welcome to RRU.

It's good to see that you've quickly picked up modding. There was so much potential in the original game that was lost because DDI decided to put semicolons in front of a few lines, and unlocking those lost features is fantastic. Anyways, we don't have an age requirement on this forum (I believe), and we have a few members that are younger than your son. We would have no problem with him joining if he so desires, and then we would have a mother-and-son team on the forum.

One final thing: what videos did your son see that led him to this site? Some of the members here have video walkthroughs of the game on YouTube and we try to advertise our little forum whenever we can. It would be cool if those ads were actually working.

I was quite surprised to find that there was original code and even the comments visible after opening the WAD file with the tool. That makes modifications quite easy.

The registering actually said "Users under 13 years of age are NOT permitted to register on this website." and that's why I did not let my son to register.

I do not know which videos he was looking, but he came to tell me that he has seen modified versions of RR and a google search brought him here.

I have quite a few modification videos posted on youtube. I used to be a full-time modder but now I just hang around and theorize the physics of the lego universe :P

Welcome.

Yeah, we have a 10 yr. old here. But mind the language around here. "Damn" "Piss" And "Hell" Are Un-censored. So it may not be a good place for your son to be if you don't like that stuff.

I enjoy the fact that there Is another Female here Besides me. Even though you're probably MUCH Older than me.

WELCOME AGAIN!

Welcome to our forums! I also wish the more impolite words would be censored.... This is a large community, but only a handful of active members. Browse the forums and enjoy your time here

Well. A new member has figured out how to add my mod, something many members here still can't. Well done.

Yeah, we have a 10 yr. old here.

We also have a 12yrs and 2 8yrs (though they were those one-time members)

Well, I hope you enjoy your stay. Ignore that mess over there, the Granite Grinder has these accidents.

Welcome to the forum svalli. It's great to see you haven't had any problems getting new mods to work. Quite a few people downloaded the tools, attempted to mod the game and give up immediately because it didn't work. So I'm pleased to see you've put in effort :)

Regarding the 13 years old limit, I have recently added that line to the registration conditions simply because under some "Children's Online Privacy Protection Act", I'm meant to. And I'm supposed to have this fax machine setup that allows parents to send in papers to say they've approved of there child to use the website. As this is just a small site I'm not going to set up that system, so I simply put that condition of being 13 or over. However, if you have approved of your son to register on this website, I'm completely fine with him registering.

I look forward to seeing your posts on the forum.

.....fax............really?

Anyways, welcome, I hope you enjoy some of the maps I've made, and the few but significant .cfg mods I've discovered, like the unlimited camera rotation mod.

You hath entered the realm of RRU. What you knew and loved is now subject to change, deletion, or ridicule by members too incompetent to see sarcasm if they were swimming in a pool of it. Your sanity is now forfeit.

Or, something like that. We are all completely insane, but nice enough to new members. Your kid is probably fine with us around. Anyways, there are lots of mods to play around with, or make your own. Thats always cool. Cirevam there is the real modder, and the rest of us just mess around. I mostly model stuff (if at all) since RR doesn't work in WINE. Just look around the forums anywhere that isn't forum games.
