Having Trouble With Windows 7

Okay, so I've tried everything that was said. I put the dll file I was supposed to in the RR directory, tried putting the dll in the windows system folder (not system 32, the correct one.). It still won't work. All I get when I attempt to play the game is a black screen. The game just sits there. I know the AVI files the cutscenes use aren't compatible with my current codec. I don't know how to skip these if at all. I will be honest, I pirated it. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Anybody know what's going on and why it won't run? I'm using a laptop with Windows 7. I played this game many years ago and wish to be able to play it once more. My original disk is scratched so I couldn't get it to run if I wanted to or not.

If it comes down to it, I'll just go purchase the PS1 version if getting the PC version to run on windows 7 is this difficult.

You can skip the AVIs. All it takes is one change in the CFG. Just find the parameter "DontPlayAvis" and set it from FALSE to TRUE. I don't know if it disables the LEGO Media intro stuff, but give it a try. It might also help us help you if you tell us where the black screen occurs... is it immediately after clicking the shortcut or exe, or is it after you select a level?

I figured out what was wrong. :) However, I'm having trouble with the music playing during the levels. All I hear is ambience and if I remember correctly, there was some music when I played a long time ago.

That must have been back when it worked, assuming it ever worked. Supposedly RR will, by default, play through the first three music tracks on whatever cd is in the drive. That, or just run windowed mode and have WMP/VLC out and running.

How do you do to get the game to play more than 3 tracks?

In the CFG:

CDStartTrack 2
CDTracks 3

Change the 3 to something else. I haven't tested what happens if you put in a number that's higher than the actual number of tracks on the CD.

Yeah, my game has the same problem. No music whatsoever. Yah it's the same as yours and it's a diskless version, got tired of having to using my disk to load LRR.

Also my disk version didn't play AVIs either. I don't remember the music though so maybe it's also Windows 7?

So where is this cfg file? I can't find it in the directory or on the ISO I'm using.

The music is stored on the disk in separate tracks. The game looks for the music tracks in your first CD drive, so virtual drives won't cut it. You're not getting any music with an ISO unless you put the disk in the drive. As for the CFG file, you need to unpack the WADs. Look around the forum for the WAD Tool. The Downloads section, which can be reached via a button at the top of every page, should be a good starting point.

I figured it out already. Thanks anyway. Still a little annoying I have to move stuff to the desktop to extract it though...
