I have been looking for a program that can view/edit the lwo files. Several programs have been suggested. Among those wings3d. But when i run wings3d and will import the lwo files from my rock raiders folder it tells me, that

"lwo files in v5.5 format are not supported." Can anyone help me with this?

Wings3d is just a program we use for modeling, but it doesn't work with LRR's format. You need lithunwrap, milkshape, or lightwave to convert models properly. I believe lithunwrap is free, so get that and convert LRR's models to something else such as wavefront (.obj), then import that into to wings3d. When you done with it in wings3d, you can export that back to obj, then convert it with lithunwrap back to lwo for LRR.

Here are some limitations:

1) You cannot animate with wings3d

2) You cannot link textures with wings3d

3) Pseudotextures may not be kept through the conversion process

Pseudotextures are the color of the model itself, without being textured by a bitmap file.

Actually, they will not be kept if you import into milkshape. I don't know about the other tools though, but I only use colors to make things look nice. I regroup and color things in milkshape.

Does Milkshape support them?

If you meant "can Milkshape export models with psuedotextures", then it can, but depending on the export process you use you'll either need to use Lightwave 8+ or a hex editor too. I think Milkshape doesn't have a problem with keeping the colors of my custom models when I import them from LWOs. Milkshape does have problems importing real textures from LWO, and most LRR models are textured, so maybe that's the problem we see most of the time.
