General Electric X-52 and X-55 This and X-51 used side intakes. X-53 was the testbed for a roof mounted intake. All of the following units were built with the then new intake. General Electric X-61 X-61 through X-70 were called "Verandas" for their appearance. Genral Electric X-6 Back of turbine. Called "Big Blows," X-1 through X-30 replaced the "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 steam locomotives. Each had a gas tubine for road use and like all of their predicessors, a deisel for yard use and turbine start up. The turbine itself was rated to 10700 hp, but the electric transmission was rated only to 8500 hp. Black Wind Two 1500 hp engines power this small locomotive. Cabin.
