Tracker
It sounds like an overheat problem. Leave the case open if possible.
Anonymouse
It sounds like an overheat problem. Leave the case open if possible. That is stupid, as we have already established that it's probably an overheat, and because leaving the case open makes a lovely way for dust to get in and make stuff worse. And system issue is very general (comprising overheat), because the entire computer is the system.
Amauros
I believe that most of us have suggested that it is probably a hardware issue where overheating is causing some component to disable your cd drive (whether it's the drive itself or the connection between it and the computer). There's a couple who think that it could be an OS/driver/virus/application issue that's somehow blocking your drive.
Addictgamer
I believe lair means software issue. Oh, and I do believe that's the problem. As said before, tried reinstalling the OS or using a repair disk? I'd use the repair disk first, then reinstall the OS if it didn't solve the problem. If you've exhausted your sarcasm reserve on that reply, might I point out that mouse probably meant us a Linux distro to fix whatever issue lair is having. He did say install though. Oh, I guess you forgot that he could always dualboot windows/Linux.
Anonymouse
he could always dualboot windows/Linux. that. As well as that, I didn't mean it in full seriousosity, though if it really is a software problem it would fix it.
Lair
It's overheating. But why did it start doing that suddenly?
Tracker
If it has no warranty, tear it dowm to see if there is a bad element in it. Or you can go to Siberia and use it out side.
Lair
tear it dowm to see if there is a bad element in it. This remonds me of when I droped my laptop and caved in the headphone jack. It seems I screwed even more. Or you can go to Siberia and use it out side. Gee, that helps.
Lair
That wasn't there yesterday. And it is now my default CD drive. Instead of drive E. And it dissapeared again.
Cirevam
If you're making ISOs of your games, then you'll need a virtual drive to mount them. I wouldn't be surprised if that is your virtual drive. But you probably already knew that. In fact, I know you do! So why *shot*

And now I can't uninstall it. Nor do I know how to run an ISO file or mount a virtual disk drive. Well that was a waste.
