exentri
Hey guys, I'm having some nasty lag when i play rock riders, pretty anoying. Seeing it burning all my CPU even with 8gigs of ram and AMD Radeon HD4250 Any idea of improving the gameplay? It's pretty much not playable as soon as i pass 10 rock raiders. just gets more and more laggy from 6 and up. Running 64bit windows 7. Tried playing with and without cd (ISO) turning of music, removing video files etc can't seem to figure out what it's. (Except ingame where it's the rock raiders movement that makes it lag) Running as windows xp (sp3) mode
Cirevam
I've had framerate problems with Radeon cards too. One member suggested turning off tessellation. I don't know if that would help since I haven't tried it. I see that you posted asking how to turn that off. I believe you can right-click your desktop, open the ATI Catalyst manager, then go into advanced settings to find it.
exentri
Found it and tried switching it off, but didn't seem to help =/ Any more ideas ?
Addictgamer
I have had similar problems on a computer I have access to that possesses a Radeon card. Are you force antialising or force antisotropic filtering? RR hates both of those.
McJobless
Wait...are the problems occurring in both Operating Systems? If yes, or just Windows XP, I have a Radeon and XP SP3, but my LegoRR didn't crap out. I'm thinking that it might because yours is a newer HD card, while mine is a legacy. I think ATi Catalyst Control (if the newer cards use that) might have a feature to emulate older card setting, so you should play around with some of the settings there. exentri
Both antialising and antisotropic filtering are off by default (Application settings) And I don't seem to find alot of settings in Catalyst that's relevant to gaming that would make any difference to CPU gameplay Also put RR prosess on high priority in task mananger, though that doesn't matter since it's the only program running when I play it. McJobless
Maybe you need to modify "TextureUsage" to a higher value...there is plenty of tutorials on this site, have a look for yourself. That'll increase the memory LegoRR will actually use. BTW, how much memory does Task Manager state it's actually using?
exentri
Guess I'm blind, can't find the tutorials But I guess I have to use the WAD tool? I tried extracting the files and such, but didnt got to edit the WAD file itself. Any "How-to" guide when it comes to editing the RR WAD file for textureusage ? I anyways used the following method: And added a 0 to textureusage, though it's still just as lagy as before.

Any "How-to" guide when it comes to editing the RR WAD file for textureusage ? You don't edit the WAD, you compile a new one. Even then, there's no need to compile a WAD unless you're releasing a large-scale mod. That aside, I've been reading up on Radeon cards and it seems like there are quite a few games that have compatibility problems with them. Have you tried disabling your graphics card and then running LRR? I guess it depends on whether or not it's integrated, but I can turn my NVIDIA card on or off with a single click, so hopefully Radeon is just as easy to disable. Oh, there's one more thing that you could try that might help to see if you can play LRR at a decent framerate AT ALL, though it's self promotion for me. You could download my Time Raiders overhaul and see if my custom vehicles and buildings cause the same type of lag that you're having. The raiders aren't using custom models, but I have noticed that my lag problems went away if I didn't have any stock buildings or vehicles in my FOV. exentri
Can't find any way to disable the Radeon card, only thing I can do is to switch it over to "Power saving mode" Unless I disconnect it through BIOS... I'll try your mod and come back =) Since it's an overhaul mod I'll pass, want to play the classic mode. Though I'm trying to add all sort of skins to see if it makes a difference to the FPS lag... Justs noticed this: 1. Open Start Menu 2. Open Run 3. Type DXDiag and press Run 4. Go to the tab "Display", and disable "DirectDraw" - Notice, that this will disable "Microsoft Direct3D Hardware Acceleration" and "AGP Texture Acceleration". - Also that many games and / or programs require this to function properly. The copy of the game seems to be made for windows XP, as you cannot turn of DirectDraw on windows 7 as far as I'm concerned. So I guess the problem is the directdraw, anyone now a trick to shut it off even in windows 7 ? Seeing the options is shaded out in DXdiag
