5.6 Frames Per Second!

Hey guys, I need some help with optimising my computer. Now, I realise the best method would be to simply upgrade it...but I don't have the cash for it. In fact, to upgrade the Graphics Card any higher, I'd need a new PSU, to upgrade the CPU I'd need a new Motherboard, and the same story with the RAM...

CryEngine 3's Sandbox tool runs a copy of the game in one of the windows, allowing for real-time editing. The problem here is that while I have a map loaded, it runs at 5.6FPS (average), but when I have nothing loaded, it reports 60FPS. I can see that running the game PLUS any editing tools would take more load on the system, but what I don't understand is why they only have the most basic options for lowering the performance hit...it gives you three modes which you can select, but they all seem to be the same.

The actual problem (as far as I can tell) is that the game is running a dynamic sky with lighting effects, which are slowing the whole thing down more so than the high poly models or the large area of the map with all the HUD pointers of objects placed etc etc. Therefore, if I could find a way to shut them down, I could probably get a reasonable 20FPS to work with.

I know there isn't much I can do without paying up (which is my intention when I get money), but my question is this: Is there anything I can do, as of right now, without money, which could at least raise the FPS and decrease the system load even the slightest?

Sadly Ben, no one here except me and you actually give a dead cows arse about CryEngine 3.

Welp, that's a bloody shame.

Oh hai

Just me here. Mapping in SOURCE.

It's old, it's not the best looking, but it gets the job done, it does it well, and doesn't clusterf*** your processor.

Lazy Idea: Try to remove the code for the Skybox or the files. Or look on the Crysis forums.

This is why I prefer Source. Still, I won't force you to switch. Is there a setting that allows you to lower your lighting or skybox quality? If not then my only suggestion is to decrease your resolution.

Tried both. Skybox is autogenned, and everyone on CryDev forums have the recommended specs.

BTW, Source is not good. It doesn't get my job done. I need something with more power (specifically reaching for DirectX 11), something striving to be king (No Steam Required)...that, and I hate all the .vmt crap.

And yes, I have toyed with Source previously. I never liked it. I thoroughly enjoyed Unity and Unreal more. Even the HEK was better...

See above.

OK heres what you do. Back when I played with the Sandbox 2 editor for Crysis there was this "Sketch Mode" option. I don't know if its in Sandbox 3, but I know thats what you want. As far as I remember, it kills textures and advanced stuff. Look for it.

Yeah, I can do that. It's just annoying because I can't use the 3D editing tools.

BTW, it's actually now a button you press that apparently "switches 2D modes".
