Problem In Lightwave 5.6

Guys, have a problem, and there is only a small percentage of you that can actually help...

It seems that modeler, the tools you use to make the .lwo files that are completely compatible with LegoRR doesn't feature an inbuilt texture/image editor. It does have a surface editor, but this only allows defining a surface colour.

Meanwhile, open up Lightwave (the actual animator) and the surface editor has an inbuilt texture editor. What this means is one of two things; either I'm not looking hard enough, or in 5.6 textures are defined in the .lws files.

I highly doubt that last statement, but I've got nowhere else to turn. If someone could help me solve this, that would be fantastic.

IIRC Cirevam found it before it was lost forever. You don't need it though. LW8 works fine for everything, and I suspect that 10 might too. We know 9 is only good for texturing though.

I don't like LW8...I really hate LW8. The surface/texture browsers are annoying and the same with the entire interface. 5.6 is better.

And no way I'm getting 9 or 10.

We all hate it but that's what we need to mod the game. Get over it, like Cirevam.

If you haven't noticed, I have the "stubborn" trait at +99. In other words, I'm not giving up until I've tested everything.

I haven't looked at the Lightwave 5 GUI in detail yet. When I figure something out I'll let you know.

It would be fantastic if you could. I'd even throw a party.

Private party.

Me getting stoned.

I don't see a texture or surface editor in Modeler.

This man wins.

Now, the only thing I can think of here is that we are missing a plugin, that we need to look further into surface properties, or that in 5.6 texturing was performed in the actual Lightwave program, and not modeler.

The map editor was a separate tool that was buggy and crashed constantly. I found myself saving every 30 seconds just to prevent losing all my work. It was actually an evolved version of the map tool used on Conquest Earth. This tool was also used for applying UV texture mapping to the animation models, since the version of Lightwave we used (v5.0) didn't support UV maps. We later switched to LW5.6 which (if I recall correctly) added support for UV maps.

If Karl says we can do it, then there must be a way we can do it.

EDIT: Alright, this is important. I've finally read up on some tutorials and stuff, and it turns out I was correct. Textures MUST be placed through the actual Lightwave tool, not modeler. In modeler, you create the surface, which then the texture is applied to.

I will be making a quick tutorial shortly on how this process works for those who have acquired 5.6.
