whenever someone with client-side mobility mods (a third party flight mod, a speed mod, etc) logs on the server gives me a "can't keep up" warning. I'm sure that's normal since the server wasn't originally intended to process data packets from modded clients.

BLAHABLAH IM NOT LISTENING ALALALALA.

Ehem. To clarify, "modded clients" don't send "different packets". They send the same packets. Think of it this way. Say I exist in minecraft. If i'm walking along somewhere, I need to report my position to the server. Every so offten, i'll send my current position to the server. If I were to have a speed or flying mod, the only thing that changes is the position it sends to the server. The way the server would stop flying/speed hacks is to compare the positions together. If a player is further or higher than they should be, the server reports to the client where they should be, and the client updates with this information. That, or it kicks you for flying.

The "can't keep up" message just means that the server can't keep up with its 20fps default speed. This also means 20 ticks/sec. It usually spits that out when its under a high load. Movement mods wouldn't cause that message. Maybe the "this person moved wrongly" message, but not the other one.

Then I don't know what would cause it. It usually spits that at me either after a player with a modded client logs off or at some random time when no one is on.

Are we EVER going to do the court? You guys said we would do it when 1.8 releases for bukkit! :(

There has been a lot of stuff to do.

I don't think we should have the court anymore.

I mean what did he do wrong again?

I had placed TNT all over as a joke, but when I was going to remove the TNT, my finger slipped and right clicked the lever near it. And then my diner no longer existed.

...and then YOU no longer existed either, right?

also, any chance of whitelisting jamesster? He has MC now.

I'm just wondering, even though the answer is most likely no, will I be opped again? Also, some mysterious person named Blakov is on the server.

I think you need to set up a new server with a different IP.

That's the only way I can think of keeping people from 4chan off of it.

They're not all bad people. Blackov and his buddy are significant contributors, not random trolls.

I think that even though the server was originally intended to be a community server, it has become something quite bigger than that - it's my biggest contribution to the world so far.

Bloody hell. Again, change the port that the server runs on and only tell those you want on the new port. That is, if you want to keep random people off.

I think we should get a new map and new Nether for a couple of reasons.

This map is from 1.7.3 so it is missing all the new things that are in 1.8.1.

The Nether is far to mixed up right now to try and organize it.

We have lots of random city's and forts but we really don't have any structure or anything to keep control over what happens where.

The Nether has far to much Obsidian to look nice.

And you said you know the seed to the world so you can just use it to get the 1.8.1 version.

As I said before, they're not all bad people. Blocking the good out because of the bad is equal to saying "let's ban hackers who are using our console system just because 1-3% are doing it to pirate games and another 5-7% are doing it to grief online, despite the huge 90-96% that creates new content and figures out new uses for the technology".

Also, I'd like the server to eventually become notable for being a non-premium alternative to Team9000.

The map is unusual and I have no clue if the 1.8.1 version would be similar. 404 was broken by the update, remember? I don't want this map to be broken by it too.

I am the one who told you about that. And all you had to say was "What? Why would it be broken?"

40K, question:

Will I ever be opped again? Or do you not trust me anymore? Just a question.

You will not be Opped and that is final.

Easy there, you can't just assume things.

Storm, I will give you OP again as long as you stay responsible with TNT. We're actually considering adding mandatory training and licensing for TNT use to avoid such a situation again.

What a quaint little idea. If only it was plausible. TNT is not that hard to make. A night out killing creepers and a minute to gather sand and you've got yourself a few TNT. There's no way to regulate TNT without the use of mods. Even then it becomes bothersome to sort that out.

If enough people are vigilant it could at least be enforced. TNT really only belongs in caves to blast out large rooms and in areas where it won't destroy buildings and other man-made work.

Also, a note to OPs: please do not de-op people without permission. Seriously, if they have OP they likely got it from me or another OP with my approval. Once permissions is installed I'll be taking the OP command away from OPs if this keeps happening.

Then install permissions already.

Installing permissions is the last thing I'll be doing by request alone. Ultimately it's my server on my machine and I have the final say when it concerns the server software.

Stuff that goes on within the server, on the other hand, is much more democratic.

Ugh... permissions is giving me way too much trouble.

Until I figure out how to use this thing I need all the OPs (inform Blackov about this if you see him) to be extremely vigilant and to watch for griefers. When someone new logs on, follow him and observe his actions to make sure he/she doesn't try to grief. Do not give them TNT if they ask for it, and if they do ask let them know it requires certification.

Also, make sure that if they go to the Nether that they don't leave miner's hope through any of the access doors.

s0d, I need you to build an iris for your nether portal. Use a combination lock if you can, otherwise just make sure to remove the lever when it's not in use.

  • 1 month later...

Alright. The server is back up at address 97.95.232.155:25565. YOU MUST ADD THE PORT NUMBER TO THE IP ADDRESS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL END UP WITH ERRORS!

In other news, CTXXTC and I discovered an abandoned NPC village. We are in the midst of remodeling it.

Finally, the last of the GL-1 incident has been cleaned up. Several hundred diamonds were found in the ruins.
