Can't Play A Level

Okay so basically my problem is that I can't even get past chief explaining the objective. This all started happening when I opened the cfg file and increased the texture usage value to 8 times its original value. Now whenever I start a mission chief starts talking and he keeps looping the first 3 words he can say over and over and eventually I just use task manager to close the game. I do not have any mods installed (unless you count my modifying of the texture usage value)

If it helps I have a 1GB graphics card and windows 7. Forget how much RAM I have. I also edited it with notepad.

Telling us how much RAM you have will probably help. It isn't hard finding that out.

Windows 7:

Start -> Right click "computer" ("my computer" sometimes) -> Look under "Installed memory (RAM)".

Firstly, can I say that you have an AWESOME username. Lovin' it. And also, welcome to RRU!

Now, Windows 7 has mostly been a thorn in our side for most the time we've tried to help someone, so this could end up being a very long, windy process, or a short one.

So, did LegoRR run perfectly when you didn't change the value? If it did, then this is interesting. If not, try using the compatibility modes for Windows 98 or XP that you can use by right-clicking on the program and going to "Compatibility".

If you let LRR allocate more RAM than you physically have, the game will either crash or act really screwy. I tried it before but I don't think it even let me past the main menu.

Okay I did that and it says I have 4GB of RAM. Which kinda surprises me for some reason.

Yes it did. I also got rid of Baz's mod (which I had before changing the file) and copied back in my back-up files and opened it with the WAD tool to edit the cfg.

Ever since then it has not worked.

I think it either messed up at the copying back in the backups, or you did something wrong when editing the CFG.

How about applying the mod to an unmodded copy of RR?

You must not understand because I changed the CFG on a copy of RR with NO other mods. I deleted Baz's mod since the WAD tool though that it wasn't a rock raiders WAD so I opened up my back-up copy of rock raiders and edited the CFG in there by extracting the files and using notepad.

I did nothing else in the CFG. It's the unmodded version of the game.

Oh, ok. You said " copied back in my back-up files", so I thought you copied the WADs (or files if using data method) from a folder holding the original WADs (or files if using data method) into a copy of RR that had Baz's mod installed prior to said copying.

Well, in that case, how did you edit the cfg?

Can you tell us exactly what steps you did?

Well i obviously opened up the original wad to get to the cfg and exported everything.

Then i opened the cfg with notepad and once i edited the value i recompiled it and got a wad named legorr which i used. Does it need the number?

Yeah... It needs a single-digit number. Lower numbers are used by the game first, so you could probably just name it LegoRR2 and any changes you made will override whatever things are in the lower-numbered WADs.
