Lego Battlebots

Ok. You already know that I've been working on combat robots lately. Well, after watching Lego Robot Wars on YouTube, I decided to design another mechanical warrior. This time though, since my work on Battlewagon has stalled yet again (my brother is supposed to be trying to find a good deal on a Briggs & Straton E-Tek for me) I've decided to work on something just for fun.

Presenting...

SYCLONE

Drive power is four Power Functions XL motors geared down slightly for torque. Spinning "blade" is also powered by an XL, geared to the moon for high RPM. Control is a pair of Power Functions IR Remotes. Power is provided by a pair of Power Functions battery boxes. The robot steers using tank-steering, similar to the LEGO Spybotics line, Mindstorms RIS Pathfinder and Roverbot and Mindstorms NXT mobile robotics platforms as well as most actual combat robots.

Note that this machine shares a lot in common with Tornado from Robot Wars.

I actually did a LEGO NXT competition at my middle school after the FLL season failure. The goal was to (using Philo's Joystick) immobilize your opponent or disable him (I.e remove his arm or something) without pinning. We had like 4 other schools come and join. People built a forklift thing, one with a arm that came smashing down, and a claw sideways. My team simply put a paddle on a bot with big wheels and succeeded in winning almost every match.

This looks cool, though I think you need to focus less on the body paneling as the mechanism paneling.

Mounting panels to the weapon assembly would be difficult. I'm actually in the process of redesigning it, so I'll probably add that to my to-do list. Don't expect an RL version any time soon - I really need to stop getting sidetracked and finish Battlewagon.

I really like the looks of that robot! The weapon might need a bit strengthening though. I just made a website specifically for Lego Battlebots like this. I have 6 active robots right now and an arena that is almost complete. It would be great if you checked it out! www.legobattlebots.weebly.com

The weapon is supposed to be similar to Tornado's (from Robot Wars) spinning disc and thus an interchangeable component. I have a few other attachments planned (Don't worry, none of them include a giant frame designed to keep the robot itself from being hit by weapons or falling into a pit if applicable), so I had to sacrifice some structural integrity. The "blade" is more designed to catch exposed components and potentially knock them off as opposed to doing any structural damage anyway - the main weapon is its potentially powerful drivetrain and sturdy frame.

Razer should have won that match :(

I know, right? Granted, the frame was at the time within the rules, but during the rematch in Robot Wars Extreme Razer technically immobilized Tornado on the pit. The way it looks, Tornado was only given the win because the producers thought Razer was boring to watch.
