MrElephant
I am new here so don't get mad at me. I want to edit the drivers you race against inside the game. Not the boss characters like Kahuka or Red Beard but like the characters like Rob N Hood and stuff. Where should I start? Is there a tool that I can just import the characters and their vehicles onto existing sprites or what do I have to do?
lu9
First, you will need the PC version of LEGO Racers, the N64, and PS1 version isn't moddable at all. Next, download the JAM extractor, you can find it here in the LEGO Racers section. make a copy of the LEGO.JAM File from C:Program FilesLEGO MediaGamesLEGO Racers (C:Program Files(x86)LEGO MediaGamesLEGO Racers if you use an 64 Bit OS) and copy to the place where you downloaded the Jam extractor, LEGO.JAM contains all file data. Next, if you are trying to mod Character textures, here is the place for them: Menu Textures: MENUDATA/PARTDB Game Textures: GAMEDATA/COMMON Explore around these folders. Just remember we don't found out how to open the unreadable BMP files yet, but you can still replace them with ANY BMPs you Like. Hope that helps :)
lol username
PS1 version isn't moddable at all. Actually, I was able to extract the PS1 JAM and put its files in the PC version, and they worked. So, in theory, the PS1 version could be possible to mod with the PC modding tools. I haven't messed with the N64 game much.
Lair
The biggest problem is creating an ISO or burning a disc that is accepted

le717
First off, welcome to RRU! Let me see if I understand you. You want to change the non-boss racers into some other racers, correct? Well, if so, (no offense here, lu9 ), but there is a much better way to do it. Extract LEGO.JAM using one of the JAM Extractor tools. Download origamiguy's >CircuitEdit tool and extract it somewhere (maybe your Desktop) Find the LEGORACE.CRB file in MENUDATA (it was just extracted from the JAM), and copy it to your Desktop. Run CircuitEdit and open LEGORACE.CRB. In the sidebar, select the race you want to change (they are in order that you race the tracks, sans the mirrored version). On the right, you will see a bunch of dropdown menus. Using them, select the two letter name of the racer you wish to put there (GB = Gov. Broadside, CR = Capt. Redbeard, RN = Ron 'N Hood, etc). When you are done, save your edited file. Copy your modded file back to MENUDATA. Move the original LEGO.JAM to a different folder (perhaps Save), so the game won't load it. Run the JAM Extractor again, but this time, recompress your modded files. Name the file LEGO.JAM, making sure it is in the folder as LEGORacers.exe Run LEGO Racers, and select the track you modded. Tada! You have just completed your first LEGO Racers mod! Please continue on to the next lesson, "Racers 1999 or 2001?" MrElephant
MrElephant
So I made a character and I have its save file. So how can I put him into the game over another character like governor broadside?
mumboking
You can't add or replace characters in the game with ones you make. This is because the way that they're made is different.
Cirevam
First, you will need the PC version of LEGO Racers, the N64, and PS1 version isn't moddable at all. You can make texture packs for the N64 version depending on the emulator you use, but it's much easier to go with the PC version. Plus emulated versions have weird problems like opponent cars not rendering when they're twenty feet away.

That is why you use the Glide64 plugin for LR, you can still do texture packs and the game runs well, but still I prefer PC.
