Hi all, I am back with my LMS Explorer V4 (finally!). I have again (re)created the LMS Explorer from the Rock Raiders PC game. I made some significant changes, basically building it again from scratch in order to make it more realistic. My previous version of the LMS Explorer was built around (actually on top of) a series of green baseplates. I decided to go with a more realistic, shaped hull design for this version. I used just simple 2x4 gray bricks to shape the basic structure of the hull. This is a significant improvement over my previous designs. (See the changes from V1, V2, V3)

This ship is the most important Rock Raider vehicle as it holds all of the Rock Raiders, their equipment, materials, and other supplies. Capable of reaching lightspeed via powerful engines, the LMS Explorer also carries a powerful shielding system capable of defending against such threats as asteroids and other interstellar debris. With an advanced sensor array and an advanced long range teleportation system, the LMS Explorer is fully equipped to transport and support the Rock Raiders mining team on extended missions.

This is the vastly improved version of my first generation LMS Explorer which was too short and had too many miscellaneous doodads. V1

It is a further improvement over the second generation version of my LMS Explorer which, while better, was still too short and blocky. V2

The hull shape in particular is more refined than the hull shape of the V3. I also added more elements to break up the long gray continuity of the hull. V3

This ship is not supposed to be an exact replica, but rather a good impression of it, so I took some artistic license in places. If I had more gray bricks, I would have pushed the length of the ship a bit longer to make it more proportional with the bridge/command tower. Also, I could implement an underside to the ship as well. Currently it's just open on the bottom with supports to help it stand. I'm not sure what scale this would translate to, but it felt right. I hope you enjoy this creation of mine; Rock Raiders was an amazing theme!

Thanks guys! I had a ton of fun making it; it was a long time coming, I know, but I'm glad to have finally delivered the finished product! Hopefully for the next eventual version, I will create an underside to the ship. I'm pretty pleased with how the hull has been fleshed out, but there's still lots of work to be done on the underside! Thanks again everyone!

I can't believe I didn't see this before, this is great work Lop Huckawuckie! The fact that you finished it off with a background just really polished it off.

WOW. that is nice! i'v seen V1-V3 on the web before, but this blows all them out of the water. love the bridge windows and the use of 12v train tracks on the sides (big train fan).

On a side-note the LMS in minifig scale is coming along nicely , bridge tower 65% finished
