ftgsarge
i was wondering if i could have a program load from 2 or more sources. i have it on my ext. drive and another copy on a flash drive. is there a way for my computer to recognize both sources and load them tandemly. i tried to look for a way but google has failed me. Cirevam
You're saying you have one part of a program on one drive and another part on the second drive? Welp, I think disk-image mounting programs will let you mount two disks at a time and a game that requires both disks (for some reason, I've never seen one act like that) will work. Just curious, why are you doing this? What kind of program, and why not put all the pieces in one place? Is it simply too big?
Anonymouse
So basically, you want two copies of the same program running at the same time? Be a bit clearer, and tell us which of our interpretations was correct, mine or Cirevam's. ;)
ftgsarge
Anon you were more correct. i do have the same program in 2 different places and I was wondering if i could set them both up so that the computer can take data from both sources. the reason I want to do this is because i want to load the game faster. Cirevam
Assuming that either your external drive or your flash drive connects to your computer via USB, it's not going to make the game load faster. USB is really slow as it is. If you were using firewire you might get away with it, but for all practical purposes putting the program directly on your computer's drive will be the most effective solution. Now, if the flash drive is something like a CompactFlash or SD card and you have a direct connection slot for it in your computer then running it from there wouldn't be as bad as running from USB. I still recommend just putting the thing on your computer unless it's some type of game that you leave on a drive so you can take it elsewhere for a quick play. Also note that some external drives will give you the option to speed up your system when they're plugged in as a sort of RAM extension. I think it's called ReadyBoost. Not all drives do this and there's a minimum amount of space required on the drive for it to work, but you might want to try that and see if it helps. No, unless you're in linux (or another unix-like system) or this program reads and follows LNK files, which is highly unlikely.
