Minifig9292
This is actualy week old news, but I think you guys should be informed about something that made my entire flipping week. Have a thread shamelessly copied and pasted from Facepunch. http://www.reddit.co...alf_life_alpha/ So a week ago on reddit, this guy posts saying he has this disc that was given to gaming journalists back in 1997 as an early demo of the game http://imgur.com/a/0QsPP. A valve employee asked him about his reddit post, and the guy with the disc asked the valve dude to go check with the rest of the valve guys to see if it'd be ok if he posted it. Apparently he didn't hear back after a week so he's now posted it all anyways. Videos: The maps included with it: Only three weapons appear to be in the game, pistol, crowbar, and mp5 with working grenade launcher. Unlimited ammo and no reloading for both guns. The crowbar f****ing sucks. Also of interest are demo files for most of the maps, where you can watch some guy from 1998 playing through the maps (badly and usually with god mode). type 'playdemo *map name*" to view them. Not all maps have them. As far as cut content goes, you can see non-functioning panther-eye monsters, working minigun troopers and lots of old models for basically everything but alien/human grunts and vortigaunts. And also pressing 5-9 number keys playings saxophone sounds and jazz music and other random s*** because why not. HOW TO GET IT TO WORK: Download both files in a same folder, open HLAlphabyJayzer.cue with Daemon Tools Lite ( It's free go google it you shmuck ), mount it, it will appear in your virtual cd drive, open it up, copy Half-Life folder to your Hard Drive Disk, then remove Opengl32.dll from there, then launch Half-Life GL.bat, enjoy. If you get Video Driver errors than you should: Delete opengl32.dll (the one that's in the same directory as the executable) and run the enginegl.exe version. I'm unsure if links are allowed to be posted at this point, so I'm just going to say to google for it on your own. Have fun playing with a piece of history. Cyrem
I'm always interested in these alpha/beta/reviewer discs... I have a few various ones myself. However, regardless of it's build status or age, I can't allow links the disc images here because it is warez... so I've snipped that out. This guy however wasn't exactly smart in his release plan. Firstly if you want to make big money off it (which seems to be his drive(he has admitted cashing in, in the comments) considering that he is taking donations (Seriously for what? I'd rather donate to ANY modder here then a guy who ripped a disc) you don't go and release the contents of the disc then auction it, he would have fetched more if he didn't release the content. Secondly, you don't talk to just any random Valve employee if you are talking about releasing, you talk to the people with pull... for you own sake. Third, if you are going to release something illegally like he did, he should have done it anonymously. Seriously, Valve can simply win the auction, get the disc and his address and charge him for piracy. As for the game itself, I was never really interested in playing HL. Minifig9292
Ah, I didn't think about it being warez for two reasons. The site I got this information from, Facepunch.com, has a VERY strict policy against warez. I figured if the mods there kept it it was alright. Also I've been in the Half-Life 1&2 beta business for 8 years now and VALVe has never taken legal action against anything I or anybody has done. And I forgot to add that he put the disc up on eBay, last I looked the auction was up to 700 bucks. Personally I think it's good he released the content. When you've been involved with a community for 8 years where people hold content hostage just to increase the size of their ego, something like this is incredibly refreshing and amazing. McJobless
Dat face is incredible. Anyways, thanks for posting. The Half Life series (and pretty much anything by Valve) has been on of my particular interests as far as Betas are concerned.
