Alpha Dragonis' Car (And AI cars in general, I guess)

I'm wondering: Does anyone have an idea what's up with the colours of AP's car? He does not use the standard black colour of the game (more of a very dark grey, actually), as it is defined in LPIECEHI.MDB or LPIECELO.MDB, but rather something closer to real world black.

Also, note how the studs on his car are somehow inverted. So, yeah, does anyone know why it is like this with Alpha Dragonis but nobody else?

As for a more general approach: Is it possible to change the brick colours of single AI controlled cars, without making any global modifications?

Yeah, I've been noticing that too lately, but I can't think of an explanation yet. So far I have not seen it at any other AI's. Might there be a difference between the 1999 and 2001 copy? (I have the 2001 copy).

EDIT: Whoops, you're talking about the black coloured bricks, at first I thought you meant the white (not grey) brick on the sides, which I think should actually be black.

As far as I know, the AI-controlled cars (Including bosses) are just one single model, not built brick-by-brick. And because of that, I don't think they're colorized ingame by the RGB, I believe it's all just one texture.

Thus, you'll find some discrepancies between the AI versions and buildable versions. (Especially with the non-boss racers which have pieces and colors that simply don't exist.)

But I've been searching high and low and couldn't find a single car texture, just tires and decals.

What about vertex colors? Seems to me that the most logical way to do this would be to leave studs, decals, etc as textures and directly color the rest of the model.

Edit: Yeah, just checked the various car models, they do indeed have the colors baked in.
