Anonymouse
Balanced Annihilation. An RTS game, made to be a remake of Total Annihilation. Totally free. The Game To play it, you'll first need the Spring Engine. Get it at http://springrts.com. Then, you need to download Balanced Annihilation (The latest version can be found in the Balanced Annihilation section of the Spring forums). Maps After that, you'll need maps. Get tonnes of them one-by-one at http://springfiles.com. Or get one (or all) of the HUGE map-packs at http://ppa.launchpad.net/spring/ubuntu/pool/main/s/ . Click on the various "maps" folders, then download one of the .tar.gz files. Use 7-zip to extract them Notes about online play If you go to online play: A: Register as [RRU]your_user_name if you want to be teamed up with other RRU members in games B: Don't be afraid to check out other mods (keep away from CA (complete annihilation) though ) C: Watch out with the #main chat channel, it's not very friendly. A lot of racism, swearing and flaming, just keep out of #main D: Umm... I can't think of anything for D... D is coming soon! Showing off http://www.rockraidersunited.org/uploads/user/1253053511.zip << Some screenshots, which mainly show off the graphics of the underlying Spring engine. Made by me. Trailer. Shadow322
Ok at first I thought this was something like that old, "BATTLE STATIONS MEN" topic that was on the old forum. And there is way to much stuff there, I don't even understand that spring site. I might re-read it later to understand it better.
TheDoctor
do you need to install the spring engine? If so then i'm probably not going to be playing that game.
Acmex
Yes, you do. No way around it.

And you can't just play the data files. As Acmex said, you can't play without. It's like downloading an RR mod and trying to play it without RR. >_>
TheDoctor
well, my computer has the stupid parental controls on it, so i cant install any program without my mom saying yes, which has about the chance of happening as Cyrem giving my admin status for Christmas. For example, i cant install Thunderbird or HyperCam.
Acmex
If you are using XP, I could run a bare-bones install, zip it, and PM it, but that won't work with vista. Not sure if it would work, period, (File Sizes...) but hey.
Cirevam
Does starting the computer in Safe Mode bypass the parental controls? If that doesn't work, would it be possible for someone to install the game and mods on their computer, pack the files into a compressed folder, and upload it so you can download it and play it without installing it directly? Just saw that Acmex said the same thing. Just to confirm, I have plenty of games that I've moved from other computers onto this one without installing them and they all work fine, and I'm using a Vista computer right now. Many of the games I've moved are several gigs in size, so there's no reason why the file would be too big. If Megaupload or Rapidshare or even the RRUploader can't upload a several-gig file, then use hjsplit to remedy this.

Not sure if it would work, period, (File Sizes...) but hey. Three cheers for vista... Does starting the computer in Safe Mode bypass the parental controls? If that doesn't work, would it be possible for someone to install the game and mods on their computer, pack the files into a compressed folder, and upload it so you can download it and play it without installing it directly? If that actually doesn't work for Spring, fine, but it works for almost every game I have so I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. I have thought of that, but a few problems occur with that method. 1. Thats a lot of data to download, and with a flash drive or something, i would still need to get it from somebody. 2. The zipped info doesn't come with registry entries or any other files that need to go in certain places. Unless we have a vista hack, then its a no go. Just ask anyone with vista. It pisses the crap out of us. Edit: God, edit much? Well, i guess that would work...maybe. Also, im not sure if the vista safe mode will bypass that. I think that wpcsvc.dll (the parental controls .dll) is a minimal driver.
Cirevam
Before you read this, make note that I edited my previous post. 1) Bawww. Just let it download overnight. I'd download and install Spring and do the upload for you if you wanted. 2) Have you actually done research that supports the idea that the engine won't work without its registry entries? As I noted, I have dozens of games (and even stuff that runs off the Torque engine) that work without a proper installation, probably because they have their registry files within their own folders. 3) Vista hack? Huh? So Spring just doesn't work right on Vista? Then why did you bother to tell us about parental controls and whatnot? Should have just said that in the first place. Edit: God, edit much? Yes, I edit my posts right after I post them in case I missed something. Turns out I was editing that post, then went somewhere else before finishing it, then came back to finish the edit. TheDoctor
I'm sorry Cirevam. You just dont know my... current situation. My mom is an overly stressed, somewhat paranoid systems administrator at the Dept. of State, so anything computer related has to go through with her first. (Except for Firefox, which i am so lucky didn't for some reason need to prompt me.) So, *sigh*...I don't know anymore. Overnight download, niet. BTW, my computer is right in the middle if the living room, so everyone can see that it would be on. Registry entries, i meant files that have to be put into places that i can't access directly. Vista hack, check my current topic in my sig. I apologize for any abrasiveness that had come from me. /on topic: The scenery looks amazing. I would like to play it. Acmex
Thats why I said bare-bones install. That won't be *too* big, because it doesen't have the metric ton of buffer files that it uses to load maps faster.
Anonymouse
Maybe try installing it in your "My Documents" folder... No idea if it'll work of course.

Anonymouse
I would need the preinstalled zip. That wouldn't work, it has registry entries etc. Those won't come with the zip. So, because you're under parental controls, you're pretty much screwed, sorry.
