Another day, another license gaining ground on Cuusoo. This time, it's League of Legends (LoL), a game that has been gaining popularity since its release in 2009. I've never played it, but from what I've seen, it appears to be a mix of RTS and RPG gameplay in a fantasy world with assassins and robots and whatnot.

The project was started by user Addam in early 2012, but was recently featured on several gaming websites and even in a video by the game's developers, leading to a resurgence of popularity. As of this writing, it stands at over 6,000 supporters, well on its way to the required 10,000.

So, what do you think about all this? As I said, I don't know much about the game - is it a good fit for a LEGO product?

It wouldn't appeal to me whatsoever. I've never played LoL itself, but I've played its competitor, Dota 2. It's not my kind of game and it wouldn't really transfer into LEGO that well anyway because it's a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) and I'm not sure how that would work in LEGO style at all.

Here's a screenshot of the gameplay: http://mmohuts.com/wp-content/gallery/league-of-legends/league-of-legends-big-fight-main.jpg?ec9f9b

All I can imagine is maybe a Minifigures-style theme, there doesn't really seem to be much environment that could be incorporated into a set...

League of Legends (LoL) is a MOBA, a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, sharing the genera with Heroes of Newerth (HoN), Defense of the Ancients (DOTA), and with liberal interpretation: Awesomenauts (A) :P. Like other MOBAs, the gameplay is a multiplayer arena strategy fight with combat mechanics resembling an RPG sped up x200.

As standard for MOBAs, League of Legends has a colorful and massive cast of playable champions; rock monsters, reverse furries, gentlemanly monsters, big spinning guy with a sword, girl who shoots rainbow lasers, pirates, ninjas, and so on. From what I've read, the gameplay mechanics and options of LoL are the simplest between the other two main MOBAs, though it still manages to be fairly complex with several different attributes affecting the stats of your characters (Summoner level, big book of coin things, skill tree, summoner abilities, champion choice, champion level, champion ability choices, item build).

The main game type is a 5v5 match that lasts on average 40 minutes, assuming no surrender. The map, Summoner's Rift is a large square forest with three lanes, two at the map's perimeter and one stretching the diagonal that joins the two team bases and nexuses. The goal is to destroy the enemy's nexus, which will require guiding minions down the lanes, farming the opponent's minions, destroying the enemy's big bulky and dangerous turrets on their side of the lane, and finally reaching the nexus. In between the lanes are a jungle with monsters that can be farmed for gold, experience, and temporary buffs. Enemy minions and champions also grant gold upon being slain by you, and grant experience upon dying nearby. Gold is used to purchase items, while experience levels up your champion for the match.

The game has evolved to have a metagame that most high level players adhere to. Ranged champion goes mid lane, bulky champion goes top, jungle capable champion runs through the jungle and ambushes lanes, and whatever two champions balance out the team take the bottom lane. Early game involves getting the last hit on enemy minions as often as possible while disrupting the enemy's attempts to get last hits, possibly getting a few delicious early champion kills. Pushing too hard early game risks an ambush. Mid game involves team coordination to take down enemy turrets and slay champions. Late game involves making the final pushes or final defenses at a nexus, and possibly an attempt to slay the mighty Baron Nashor for the incredible team buff it gives.

I actually gave my support to the League of Legends Cuusoo project when it was around 1200 supporters. I think that it is a fantastic idea. League of Legends has a great fantasy style with bits of steampunk that could look fantastic in LEGO. The gameplay wouldn't translate at all but the artsy stuff certainly could.

I've actually never played LoL, but I did download it once. For not playing it, I don't know how to base my opinion on the project, but the designs and the minifigures do look nice.

Screw Creativity, let's just post other people's stuff in LEGO form 'cause it's cool!

Hyperborea says hi.

Hyperborea has 278, which I think is a good number at this point in time.

It's fairly well designed, but I'd like something more intricate for a CUUSOO set.

And the majority of things reaching 10,000 are like the League of Legends.

Steamrod says hi. :P

And yet my point still stands that the ones that gain popularity quickly are, for the most part, licenses.

Where did I dispute that?
