Nitegeist
Hi everyone, i'm a 22 year old dude from italy, i'm not completely new to this since i have some past modding experience with marvel ultimate alliance, mostly with textures and effects. I got Lego Racers back in 1999 and it's still one of my favorite games ever. Finding out it can be modded was pretty awesome, and i guess it's my new hobby now Currently I'm playing around with textures, scanning my minifigs and retexturing the models in hd. It would be really cool to replace the models with high poly versions, but someone else's gotta do that since i'm totally ignorant when it comes to 3d. Also, it would be cool to be able to play it in stereo 3d, since neither nvidia 3dtvplay nor other software like ddd seem to work. that's it i guess. i'll post stuff when i have some! Cyrem
Hey mate! welcome. I'm playing around with textures, scanning my minifigs and retexturing the models in hd. I'm interested in seeing how these turn out, even better when we figure out how to add new texture slots. t would be really cool to replace the models with high poly versions I sort of got higher poly hats working once... it wasn't pretty... but they were the higher poly menu hats. Nitegeist
I'm interested in seeing how these turn out, even better when we figure out how to add new texture slots.that would be pretty cool, i'd love to add characters! -- guess i'm gonna post these here for now, until i get organized and open a thread in the proper section. this is my very first attempt at a LR mod btw. this one is the scanned minifig torso (i had to clean it up a bit, the minifig is pretty old) and then i recreated the drawing based on my scan and got this: the difference isn't that huge. also i don't think photorealism makes much sense with low poly models. the prints on the minifigs are a bit wonky and imperfect, i could fix that when retracing it with vectors. also maybe there's a way to rip Lego Universe textures? i dunno, i've never actually played it. but i saw that Basil (and i guess many other, if not all LR characters) appears in LU looking quite neat
lol username
Welcome to RRU, your stuff is looking good so far. And yes, ripping textures from LEGO Universe is very easy indeed, the .pk archives are uncompressed so somebody had an extractor for them written as far back as beta testing, and the textures inside are just normal DDS files for the most part (some of the earlier torso textures and all of the finalized face textures are Scaleform GFx files, but I doubt you'd need to deal with those if you just want the ones based on real minifigure pieces). I've ported a couple LU characters to LR1 before, here's the Nexus Astronaut and Captain Jack Knife:

Do you mean you scanned lego minifigures in real life?
McJobless
I've noticed that your minifigures all wear pants. This is a good thing. I insist you follow their lead, as it'll keep conversations here plenty pleasant. Have a nice stay!
