Believe me, sir, I have modeled and re-modeled many LEGO minifigures with precision down to a hundredth of a millimeter. I'm not just sure how they look, but the shape of every piece has become lodged inside my mind.

Still needs a heck of a lot of work (those hands... um...), but it's far beyond my first attempt (see the image I edited into my last post). I'd like to see what you can do with some proper reference images and such.

Jamesster... I believe you were using Google Sketch-up (what was it called) when you made a poorly done minifigure model. I just fiddled about with the smoothness and it just looked horrible. But I changed the lighting and now it is better:

Yes, it was indeed SketchUp. And just a few days ago I made this model (fairly low poly, for use in my RPG project), also in SketchUp (now ported to Blender so a friend of mine can do rigging and animation and whatnot, but all the actual modeling was done in SketchUp). It's a pretty good program to make LEGO stuff in, given it seems to have been developed with building architecture in mind, which works well with LEGO's blocky style.

As for your smoothing there... Dude, add some hard edges in there or something, even extra edge loops... Especially on the hands, head, and legs. Smooth edges and sharp angles don't play nice together. The arms seem to be taking it well though.

Trust me, I'd have some choice words to say too if I was told my artwork would look cute on my mother's fridge. (Mind you, my art looks like s***. BUT THAT'S BESIDE THE POINT!) So leave it lone. Ben's entitled to his opinion, and we're allowed to critique it, not shoot it down.

And if I reported him, he would get another strike to his possibly numerous strike list. And if gets enough strikes, he's outta here!

And frankly, I'm not shooting it down. Please look at his work in the "The Unexpected Agent" topic. My critic is as valid as it'll ever be.

 

EDIT: I was out of line to say the last thing, but the top part remains valid, and I still hold the opinion that he has no right to discount jamesster's critic when he is relatively out of his depth.

You've been reacting terribly to help. You usually climax to an all-caps yell while completely ignoring advice - and then you repeat it. And when someone points out your bad attitude to you...you don't apologize. You don't acknowledge it. You ignore it or get angry. This is not good - not at all. There is a limit to how much crap anyone can take, and it's obvious that most people here have had at least one bad interaction with you. This is not a good way to behave. I highly recommend that when you read people's posts and you start to feel angry, you just walk away from the computer. Drink some water, eat a snack, jump up and down repeatedly, read a book - whatever - just calm down. Then come back, and read it again. If you become angry, repeat. And if this just keeps happening, then there's something wrong there. And if you can respond to the comments individually, respectfully, and constructively, then congratulations - you're participating in a way that other people can respect.

On Topic: I hate to add to all of this, but really. Try this: before you post something, read over it two or three times. Think to yourself, "how will other people take this?" You seem like an intelligent person, but you get angry too easily at things too trivial.

Your model was a good start, however, it obviously needs some fixing. Instead of disregarding the advice Jamesster so kindly gave to you, why don't you follow it and see what happens? Besides, if you don't want advice, why do you keep posting your (still formulating) ideas over and over and over again we can't take it anymore GAAAGGHGHGHGHGHG *ahem*...  sorry about that.
