Fush
Since Microsoft's new console was unveiled the other day, the 8th console generation is now complete (unless some new company joins the fight, which is unlikely) Nintendo's Wii U Sony's Playstation 4 Microsoft's Xbox One Since opinions about the new consoles have already been thrown about in various places across the site, I decided to make a thread for it. Let the 8th round of the console wars... BEGIN!
Cyrem
A console war implies they all have an equal chance of winning. I assure you, this is not the case. McJobless, Cirevam, Wognif and 2 others

Drill Master
*FACEPALM* I knew it wouldn't be long until a topic was created... Hmm... statistics show that I do not give a crap about statistics. Obviously, I'm going for the Xbox One for the same reason as I went for Xbox and Xbox 360. To continue my favorite video game series: Halo. My first console was the original Nintendo. 2nd was the PS2, then Xbox, DS lite, DSi XL, and Xbox 360. I definately don't care about all the high tech stuff they put into the Xbox One. I just want it to play games, although it's about time they added a Blu-ray drive. I'm not one for online gaming. Co-op with a friend or my bro is good enough for me. All I do now (or used to do since Xbox LIVE doesn't support Satelite Internet) is go on LIVE for the next MC update, or look for DLC. I just skipped past all the music and tv and video stuff. I don't care about that stuff. I just want to play games and have fun. That's it. My only concern is that the Xbox One will support Satelite Internet. I believe that is all I have to say. Jimbob
I guess OUYA is out of the question then. I like it, for dev purposes, but I have to cast my vote to the PS4. To put it bluntly, if I were to personify the consoles... The Xbox One would be the pest in the corner who eternally envies and tries to outmatch his older brother. The PS4 would be the older brother who reigns supreme. The Wii U would be the guy who appeals with the peasants. That's my opinion.
apemax
I'm more leaning towards the PC for gaming at the moment as there are a lot of games on it that I like but if I had to choose a console then I would have to for the PS4. Mainly because of the exclusive series like GT, Killzone and a few others. Also most of the MGS series seems to get just released on the PlayStation consoles. For the Wii U there just isn't the games on it that I really like to warrant buying one and I'm not a big fan of motion control and touch screens either. For the Xbox One again there isn't many games on it that I really like to warrant buying it, I'm not really a fan of kinect or voice control either and well it just doesn't appeal to me. To me it's the games that's the most important factor and the PlayStation consoles are the ones with the most games on that I like.
LimeKiller
PC gaming is the best, but I still own a PS3 because Sony has amazing exclusives. Out of the console selection, PS4 is the obvious choice, but I wouldn't get one until there was a price drop.
Mr. Eight-Three-One
Specs are a terrible reason to lean toward a certain console, especially considering what some of the results have been from companies who brag about how high-tech their systems are. And hilariously, the PS2 and the Wii were the lowest spec consoles of their generations, and guess which ones won the race in each? Not saying low specs are a good thing by any means, but it sort of irritates me when people gush all about a system's specs and act like it will be the sole reason it will win the generation. It's the same reason it bugs me and many others when all someone can do is gush about how great the graphics are in a game. Without going into a complete bias, here's my two cents on the whole situation... Xbox One -- It's somewhat early to jump to conclusions right now considering we still have a whole lineup of games that are yet to be revealed, but I still am hating the whole concept of the anti-used games thing (which still may be a rumor, as they've been pretty unclear on the whole situation so far) and requiring online connection. Also, I really don't get where they're coming from on trying to market this as an all-in-one multimedia center. If you want to make something like that, that's fine, but when we've been trained for a decade now to connect the name "Xbox" to "video game console", what makes you believe people looking for such a utility will think to buy it? It's like trying to make a desktop operating system look like something that belongs on a portable...OH WAIT. That said, we still could potentially see a killer app fly by, though we have to wait until E3 to know for sure. PlayStation 4 -- I feel like the system has a lot of potential...or perhaps too much of it. I'll admit, some of the features did get me interested, especially streaming games and whatnot. It was also pretty relieving to find out they weren't going through with that used game policy after all. But on the other hand, I feel like they didn't learn from their mistake in the last generation -- the specs were so insanely high that we ended up with a ludicrously high price tag, which gave it a really rocky start. And from what I hear, their other mistakes have actually made them lose profits from the PS1 and 2 eras, which isn't something that can be easily overlooked. That's what makes me worry about this; the specs are amazingly high, but they almost feel so high that the price tag is going to shoot through the roof again. Wii U -- You might think from what I have said in the past that I think this system will be a complete success, in that case you'd be wrong. I am a Nintendo type of guy, but I think they made a pretty bad mistake of making that controller too costly -- Nintendo has been able to survive some tough times mainly because they profit off of every console sold, whereas other companies have to sell off some games before they make an official profit (hence why uber specs aren't always a good thing). The Wii U is an exception though, and apparently it's a pretty big loss per console at that. Not to mention its sales have been lukewarm at best lately, so I don't believe it's going to be an easy generation for Nintendo. A lot of people pass this system off as gimmicky, and yes, it is. But so were Rumble Paks, and now that's basically a standard thing built into every controller. All in all, I don't have hopes on the system being a huge success, but I don't entirely think it's going to kill them either, especially considering they've survived things like the Virtual Boy before. In the very end, I'm still a PC guy, but that's my whole opinion on the overall "war" if you will. Fush
Cyrem
price tag is going to shoot through the roof againDon't care about the price. I bought my PS3 for $600 back in 2008, i'm still using it today. I got my monies worth out of it. For people who can't afford it day dot, layby & rental exists. High specs give it more potential and more longevity. I am by no means a graphics is everything guy, no quite the opposite, however I do enjoy a nice sparkly effect now end then... especially shiny cars. Mr. Eight-Three-One
You may not, but many others do. Plus, even at that high price, it was still sold at a massive loss. Apparently they didn't make any profits until two years after the system launched. Ouch. If you're fine with prices like that, good for you. I just don't think it's very good business practice to deck out a system so much that nobody can afford it, especially when you consider what happened to systems like the 3DO. Mr. Eight-Three-One
I'm not saying selling at a loss is bad either, but like you said, "I actually wish more companies sacrificed a little profits". For every PS3 sold, five games had to be sold before you broke even. That's not "a little" to me. And like I said, Nintendo is actually making a loss for their systems this time around, so there's that too. Sorry if I sound a bit fanboy-ish here, I am a Nintendo kind of guy after all. At least I'm not defending Windows 8 anymore... Bottom line, what I'm trying to get out is that if the price isn't horrendous, they might have a chance. If it is, I don't have high hopes.
