Ben24x7
First off. I know you all (not exactly all, that is) know how to mess with Island textures (especially the minifigures) but before I can suggest something possible I want to ask, is there any files containing the actual minifig model? le717
Yes, there is. They are contained in the SI archives, and until they can be extracted (and possibly recompressed, if needed), we cannot get access to it, just like all the other files.
lol username
Oh, I have plenty of ideas for GMod/SFM videos involving LEGO Island things... But as I don't own either, I haven't actually done anything with those ideas.
Ben24x7
Right. If i can find what file SFM supports then hopefully there should be a rough similarity between the type of models and the models SFM supports.
Ben24x7
Bad news about the model formats needed: *Cough StudioMDL cough*. I don't believe that the LI character and mesh files are StudioMDL and I don't think there will be a possible way to change the LI model format. BTW: What is the format type for LI models anyway? le717
I'm finding references to OBJ, BMP, STL, and ANI (but I'm positive it's an animation, not a mouse cursor). However, if LEGO Racers modding has taught us anything, it's to not judge what type a file by its extension. EDIT: ANI is based on the RIFF format, and RIFF is the header of the SI archives. Any relation? Who knows.
Ben24x7
Well... What about the LI model format?
le717
Did you even read what I said? Well... What about the LI model format? I'm finding references to OBJ, BMP, STL, and ANI (but I'm positive it's an animation, not a mouse cursor). However, if LEGO Racers modding has taught us anything, it's to not judge what type a file by its extension. OBJ and STL are 3D model formats, but until we actually look at the files and judge what they really are, don't count your chickens until they hatch. Ben24x7
Oh... Right... I thought you were talking about other files SFM supports, not the LI file format. Oh well... But Is there any way we can change the format?
Fluffy Cupcake
Oh, I have plenty of ideas for GMod/SFM videos involving LEGO Island things... But as I don't own eitherYou know that Gmod and SFM aren't the same thing right? Also, SFM is free. How about LI2 models? We can already get those materials and convert the models to .obj. But as I don't own either You know that Gmod and SFM aren't the same thing right? Also, SFM is free. Of course I know, I watch videos made in both of them all the time and have seen how they work. What makes you think I thought they were the same thing...? 0.o I simply don't have either of them right now, I've got enough other projects going. Fluffy Cupcake
I guess that fact that you put gmod and SFM together with a / and the fact you said "own" them, as if both have to be paid for.

And I said I didn't own them... And what does payment, or lack thereof, have to do with this...? My point seems pretty clear to me, I'm not sure what's so confusing about it. Fifi La Fume
I have ported some LI2 models to source, but not the characters as they are many seperate files. The same probably applies for LI. There's no way the minifigs are one model.
Wognif
As much as I'd like to mod the characters (giant torso minions?), until we drill the lights out of it to get a good look at the files, modding the characters is close to impossible. le717

Ben24x7
Disappointment... I'd have liked to discover that Lego game files are compatible with SFM... But thanks for checking it out anyway!
PeabodySam
In the meantime, we always have these videos. A third one was planned, but is currently stuck in Development Hell. But for now, it's the closest we have to LEGO Island videos made in Source Film Maker.
Ben24x7
Yeah... I have seen those two before but they don't feel like Lego Island... Maybe because its... eh... the voices don't fit the characters of Team Fortress 2. It just doesn't work...

Ben24x7
I found a tutorial on YouTube explaining how to get models from games on Steam and then into SFM. One of the files/applications needed involves unpacking objects so I thought 'If we can unpack the Lego Island folders and find the models for characters and buildings and more then it is sure possible to actually get the models into SFM'. This is actually part of the tutorial I found, just unpack the files to get models and animations, put the extracted files into a folder, change the code so it is readable for SFM, insert the new folder into the SFM folder and modify the code which chooses what game models/clips or whatever gets used and finally: Restart SFM. Yeah, it is kinda hard and the extracting bit can lead to errors (Which I came across when trying to unpack models and stuff from Portal 2) but if the right 'unpacker' can be found then it will probably be very possible for LI to be in SFM. If anyone wants to see the tutorial then just ask and I'll put it up.
Fluffy Cupcake
Once a long time ago I ripped the green arrow which tells you were to go on LR2 and half successfully put it in gmod once for the lolz. So yeah, if someone can take the character models we already have from LI2 and put them in a format for Valve games, then yes we can definitely do it (unless of course someone has their OWN better LEGO minifigure model and decals we can use). I mean, someone already put bricks in gmod before.

Again we are talking about Lego Island, not Lego Racers 2... Unless it is possible for both to be in SFM.
