...Copy it to your hard drive? Like, "C:ROCKRAIDERS"?

Oh, and use something to rip the music. WMP will do.

Make an ISO and WMP is trash.

O.T.
You can fix the title using full edit.

No it won't. WMP is trash.

If you want a ROM you'll need something like... I have no idea, ImageBurn? DaemonTools? I'm not familiar with ripping programs-

in fact, isn't this better for Google searching, since it's not really related to LRR support besides the game being LRR? (this is the LRR forum right)

You just need some advice from people who have done it.

Imgburn is good for creating the disc image. Make sure you save the image as BIN&CUE file, not an ISO. Use Daemon Tools to mount the image to a virtual drive. Unfortunately I don't think RR can play music from a virtual drive, so you might need Cafeteria for that.

With the 'Not valid WAD' error, try extracting the WADs from your desktop, might be a permissions issue.

What's wrong with an ISO on a game with no copy protection?

I made my own ISO with ImgBurn. It works flawlessly. I have the diskless EXE so I only use it to install one time.

Well, for starters, don't make a digital copy, especially because that means you aree stealing from the company who made the game. Digital copy are against the law (I think) because you are not paying the creators for copying their game.

Second, are you sending this digital copy to a friend of yours? No matter who you are sending the copy to (even yourself) you are breaking law.

Sorry, but I honestly have no other reaction to this. I'll simply point out the most obvious thing I can here: If it's illegal, why would both the site administrator and a moderator provide help on doing it? Cyrem especially is very specific about not allowing illegal anything on this site. :|

True, but this is a backup CD, which may be used in the event the original disc is lost or destroyed.

Yes, digital copies are indeed illegal. (Please see the Software License Agreement) Although, he legally bought the game(Possibly)and therefore he did indeed pay the company.(Unless he got it from Amazon or eBay, or, worst of all, a garage sale, but he still owns it legally.)

Second, are you sending this digital copy to a friend of yours? No matter who you are sending the copy to (even yourself) you are breaking law.

He never said he was going to send it to a friend, he said he needed to know how to make a backup disc, which, is perfectly legal so long as it is used for personal use only. (Again, see the Software License Agreement)

It is legal to create a personal backup copy for archival purposes only. Law can also over-ride license agreements if they contradict the law.

I have never seen anything regarding in what state that the archived copy must be in. Converting the contents of the disc to a disc image (digital copy) cannot be illegal because you must in some form run the data through a computer system to create a duplicate... creating a digital copy of the data.. If your acquire a digital copy that is not a backup of your legal disc, it is illegal. If you sell your legal disc you must destroy your archived copy.

What's wrong with an ISO on a game with no copy protection?

BIN+CUE creates a more raw and accurate disc image. ISO does not store multi-track data or disc specific information. This is especially important when archiving older computer and console games. An example with LRR would be that if using ISO, you will lose the audio tracks on the PC game.

Just to quickly hijack this thread. I've been reading this with intent as I want to make an ISO of my Racers 1999 disc, but it has copy protection too (SafeDisc). , would the method you gave for backing up the LRR disc (Imgbrn, ISO+CUE) work with Racers, and require me to mount it with Daemon Tools every time (considering Win8 has an ISO mounter)?

You can't use ISO with CUE. When you go to save the image, change the format to BIN. The CUE file will automatically be created. Then yes, you'll need to mount it with Daemon or any other mounting software. When you go to mount it, mount the CUE file, not the BIN.
