Agent Arrow
Hello RRU community. This is my first ever post here. I've been working on some Lego oriented 3D CAD projects lately. Specifically I've been recreating old Lego kits / famous models on my computer and uploading them to my DeviantArt Page. I've run into a bit of a problem though. While trying to texture some of my latest creations, I have not been able to find a good online version of the graphics / stickers on some of their bricks. For the most part I have just assembled the model without these graphics and left it plain but I would like to actually apply these decals to take my virtual models to the next level. Right now there are a few that I would like and I was wondering if anyone on this board has / knows where to get images of the brick graphics / decals. I'm looking for specifically these: Rock Raiders: Black and yellow stripes across the 14 x 3 x 2.33 grey fender piece Black and yellow stripes across the 2 x 2 x 1 grey sloped brick Operator interface on the 2 x 2 x 1 teal sloped brick vent pattern across the 3 x 2 x 1 teal sloped brick controls across the 2 x 1 x 0.33 grey flat plate Rocket Racer: Rocket Racer's Icon Tiny Turbos: Stickers for 8644 Street Maniac Stickers for 8304 Smokin' Slickster Stickers for 8149 Midnight Streak Like I said, I'm looking for digital images of these decals. I've tried scanning and tracing them in photoshop to a decent effect but I would very much prefer to have a nice high-quality version of the brick. I've seen some computer models using these textures so I know that the images are out there, I just don't know where to find them. Thanks for any help you can provide. PWNZOR
I have a bunch of old scans of brick decals from a couple years ago. They'll need a bit of doctoring before final use, but maybe they're useful. http://www.mediafire.com/download/vzvpw4egi00xq69/Scans.zip
lol username
Very cool stuff, sir. I do LEGO modeling as well, though my stuff is more low-poly for use in games and such. I can't help you much when it comes to the real pieces, but I have a couple ideas where there might be some sticker scans, I'll see what I can find. Rocket Racer (and his car) weren't ever in a physical set, so there's no pieces or stickers to scan for that, you're gonna want to get the original textures from the game and use those instead. We don't really have a good way of converting textures from the PC LEGO Racers game directly, due to weird compression format stuff, but there has been some success in ripping the texture once they're loaded into memory. Not sure if anybody's ever ripped the texture for the front of Rocket's car before, but I do have his body texture on hand: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jamesster/LR1/rocket_racer_torso.png (the forum seems to be borking embedded images at the moment ) I think the texture for the front of his car might be higher quality, but I'm not sure. But hey, you're gonna have to re-do it to some extent anyway, so maybe this will work. Edit: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=8644stk01 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=8304stk01 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=8149stk01 Last one isn't so good but the others are decent. Agent Arrow
Thanks for the comments guys. I had an additional idea. Is there Lego CAD software that has the rock raiders specific bricks? If so that software likely has a texture image for those brick faces. I've heard some mentioned like LeoCAD but I've never used anything aside from LDD as far as specifically Lego design software (or Solidworks for creating my own virtual Lego kits) @Jamesster: That's pretty awesome to hear. Mine are not game friendly. They're for rendered graphics only. While Rocket Racer's car has only about 75,000 polys; the Chrome Crusher model has about 3 million polys. Geez dude, if you're using CAD software, does it have the ability to use quads or nurbs instead of plain triangle polygons? Still, I looked through some of your gallery and your LEGO models are really nice. The non-LEGO stuff is even better since you can be more creative. It's good to have you on RRU. Rock Raiders: Black and yellow stripes across the 14 x 3 x 2.33 grey fender piece Black and yellow stripes across the 2 x 2 x 1 grey sloped brick Operator interface on the 2 x 2 x 1 teal sloped brick vent pattern across the 3 x 2 x 1 teal sloped brick controls across the 2 x 1 x 0.33 grey flat plate I have some of these textures, but the 2x2x1 teal sloped control panel textures are in a very small resolution. The 3x2x1 vent texture I have is 512x512 and is very clean, and I have a few different versions of the 2x1x0.33 control panel. I can send these directly to you if you have Skype or something like that. Agent Arrow
Alcom Isst
For The Greater Good! Anyways, there is a fun lack of high-quality or even any-quality texture files of LEGO decals available to anyone. I've been running into this problem for some of my stuff as well. LEGO decals however are not impossible to recreate in high-quality, being frequently composed of basic shapes and gradients. I've been having my sister develop some decals for an as-of-yet undisclosed project.
le717
Welcome to RRU! I looked at some of your work, and was really impressed by it. Even my 3D artist brother was impressed! Nice work! As for the textures, I don't have any of the bricks for the decals, so I can't help you out there. However, if you're ever looking for some high-quality minifig textures, my brother has a collection for public use. Some of his earlier one needs to be revamped, but most of are excellent quality, the majority of which he scanned from our minifigure collection, and re-traced in SVG format. As Alcom said, high-quality LEGO textures are hard to find, but if you know where to look/ask, you'll find them. l. LEGO decals however are not impossible to recreate in high-quality, being frequently composed of basic shapes and gradients. I've been having my sister develop some decals for an as-of-yet undisclosed project. If this as-of-yet-undisclosed-but-mentioned project is larger than what rio has, then with those two projects and all the private collections, the shortage may not be as large as once thought. I'm on Skype, I'm sure you can guess my name (it's not hard). I have some of these textures, but the 2x2x1 teal sloped control panel textures are in a very small resolution. I'll see if rio can do anything to make some higher quality versions (and some of his original scans were really poor). Agent Arrow

Cirevam
I looked at your scans. Some of them aren't as clean as ones I have on file. Your teal control panel texture is way better than the 64x32 ones that I have, even if it has that bumpy effect all over it.

He's yet to work on the others. @PWNZOR, On Striped.png, are the gray patches part of the design, or is that brick wear?

Line tool is your friend. The grey patches are part of the design. It's the dark grey sloped 2x2 brick. The rough outlining is a result of bricks rotated askew and being trimmed. I had a friend do this work, as I have next to no art skills, even on a computer. I did say the images need a bit of doctoring - I mean the rough edges. From what I've seen, it wouldn't be that hard to fix them instead of criticizing it. I just don't possess the knowledge how to fix it myself. I'm going to use that when I actually start modeling minifigs too. I've updated my DA page with a properly colored Chrome Crusher and colored/non-colored versions of the Tunnel Transport. I'm starting on the Loader Dozer next, but I have to wait on a brick order since I can't seem to find my bucket for it. Undertaking this project, I have found new respect for the creators of LDD, Ldraw, etc. Creating a library of digital Lego bricks from scratch is no easy feat, and they even wrote their own software around it. It's the raytrace rendering program that uses polys, and these models become very high-poly.That's what NURBS is. If you really wanted to, you could draw the bricks in Adobe Illustrator, then put them in Autodesk Maya and convert them to NURBS and then you send that to AutoCAD or what have you. I don't know of a single CAD program which uses polygons, because polygons are nowhere near accurate enough for what CAD is designed to do. Agent Arrow
I've been working away at this project. Thanks to the Rock Raiders building instructions on this very board I've been also constructing buildings. My first one is my WIP Power Station. I still need to work on my translucent bricks, but so far it's not bad.

Lair
I know about the Refinery on the Power Station. I just didn't know what the name of the 'Power Storage Unit'.It doesn't have a name. I just call it that because I can only assume that the tower is the "crystal refinery" as the unused audio clips call it, and the box is a power storage unit since it's the same color as the energy crystals.
