LRR level select crash

Hello everyone. Recently I decided to start playing this game again. But sadly when I go to play the game, it crashes when I try to select a level.

I have searched far and wide for a solution to my problem, but nothing helps.

Someone on this forum I believe had the same problem as me. The game crashes on selecting any level, and the falling rock animation is textureless and laggy. No fix was mentioned in the thread though.

However, when launching my computer in safe mode, the game works without a hitch. But I'd rather not play in safe mode lol.

Something is launching that interferes with the game, but I have no idea what it is. I have a hunch that it may be my LAV codecs I have installed.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is exactly what happens when I run the game in RGB emulation. I'm not really the expert on this game, but I think if you run the game using the .exe in the program files then it will give you a window where you can select RGB emulation or Direct3D HAL. Choose Direct3D HAL.

But I guess that's just what worked for me. This game is wildly unpredictable, from what I gather. And if this doesn't work for you, at least you can run it in Safe Mode. I mean, it's better than nothing, right?

As I have this exact same problem, I can say that when I try running with Direct3D HAL, the game attempts to launch but fails (black screen flicker).

That is exactly what I did, and Direct3D crashed the program. The thing is, I have run this game just recently on my computer, and it worked fine.

Obviously, something running on my system is hindering the game unplayable for me. If I find out what it is, I will be sure to post it.

If you think it's your codecs, then disable them from startup (via msconfig), reboot and try again. You'll get your answer that way.

I FOUND A SOLUTION! For me at least. In the file CLGen.exe (in RRs dirrectory) select Voodoo2 as video card type.

Edit: Another problem. Game lag (was present in safe mode too), and yes I've increased TextureUsage. From what I've read, if that doesn't help then trying to fix it is pretty much hopeless...?
