Zed
Although I do like some of the first Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Spiderman sets, I am getting sick of all the licensed themes. This is one of the main reasons why I don't follow anything from current Lego. I miss the days back when minifigs were yellow (Although I don't mind the NBA minifigs) and we had to be creative if we wanted to create something from a movie that Lego didn't have a theme for. I remember being able to create cool Indiana Jones stuff mainly by using Adventurers parts back when I was 8 or 9. But then before you know it, Lego makes a theme based off that. I almost find it discouraging because it makes some people not think about trying to create it on their own since Lego already has it. Not only are there too many licensed themes, many of the recent ones aren't even good movies/shows. If the TMNT theme was simplfied and based off of the 80s/90s series, I might have been interested in that a little, but that is it. If Lego is going to have licensed themes, they need to limit them so there is still plenty of originality. But even for non-licensed sets, some of them have weird pieces that can't be used for anything else. I think Lego needs to simplify itself down a little (Not like the late 90s town sets, but maybe like the mid 1990s or even the less juniorized parts of the early 2000s. ) and reduce or eliminate licensed themes. The only picture that would fit my reaction would be Papa Brickolini's angry face in LI2, but I can't take a screenshot of that or find a picture of the face right now. Fortunately, years ago, I took a screenshot for just such an occasion: *snip* Thank you for providing the screenshot. To me, his face looks like a perfect "WTH?!?" face. Zed
Inb4 LEGO Simpsons the Video Game. At this point, I'm not surprised if it happens. Sometimes I wonder if Lego's contracts with TT games and Lucasfilm will ever end. A few years ago, I read some old progress reports (I think that was what they were) that Lego showed for the end of each year on their site. In a report some time between 2002-2005, I saw that Lego was planning on ending their contract with Lucasfilm in 2007. At the time I was reading this, their contract was changed to end in 2016. And then last year or some time around, they extend it to 2020 (I can't remember what exact year, so it may have been even later!).
