Rockraiders not working.

Hey there,

Since I installed Windows7 64bits on my PC rockraiders won't run anymore. (It used to run in 32bits windows 7)

I tried a lot of stuff to fix it, but none of it worked.

When I try to run in Direct3D HAL mode it crashes when starting the program, and when I use RGB emulation it starts the game (Massive framerate drops in the menu when the rocks fall) and it crashed when loading a level.

Windowed mode doesn't fix any of this, and i already tried some stuff with the control centre for my GPU (I have an AMD Raden HD 5670)

I do have a secondary PC with windows XP, but that monster requires a lot of power since it is an old PC.

I really want to continue making the mod I was working on.

Please help me!

-Pascal.

You tried to install a ~1999 game on a modern computer? PPPPFFFFT--

I can't really help. My suggestion is to install the game on your old computer, alternatively you can try installing the game without altered settings. If you know what I mean :P

As I already said, I really don't want to use that old PC, it consumes too much power. I just want to know how to fix this, since i've seen other people running LRR on windows7 64bits.

Yeah, I've been having the exact same problem actually. I've looked through the forums and nobody seems to have a solution; All I can really say is that it isn't a hardware issue, as it ran fine on my machine before I re-installed the OS. Fairly sure it's DirectX.

I'm not even sure what DirectX is! :D probably something that I've never seen/used.

So yeah, try contacting someone that knows how to fix this issue.

I don't have a proper solution for this but I have seen some success here and there with people using virtual machines to play older games that wouldn't work otherwise. So I guess if all else fails...

I'll try that, thank you!

What version of Windows 7 are you using? If it's Professional or higher, you can use "XP Mode" which is a supported XP virtual machine. You'll have to download it from Microsoft but it's free. There are a few other requirements but it might work for you.

Funny, that. I installed LRR on my Windows 7 64-bit computer and it has absolutely no problems. I have an nVidia GPU. When I installed it on a computer with a Radeon card, the game ran slowly.

nVidia: The way it's meant to be played. Or use integrated graphics if your CPU supports it.
