lol username
Just posted this over at BetaArchive, thought I might as well post it here too. I found something interesting at Half Price Books today... A Hot Wheels PC game from 1996 that seems to be completely unknown to the internet. I was browsing around the used PC games, and finally settled on buying Myst (finally!), Hot Wheels Jetz (which looks like some sort of aerial combat game), and Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver... Except when we went to the front desk, and the cashier opened the cases to make sure the discs were in good condition, we found that the case for Stunt Track Driver actually contained this: I'd never heard of it before, so I bought it anyway (plus, they gave me a discount as it didn't match the case). When I got home, I tried to look it up online to see what it was, but couldn't find any info on it. No listings on any websites, not even any mentions on dedicated Hot Wheels wikis and sites. Not a trace of it ever existing - very bizarre for a game with a major brand like Hot Wheels. I mentioned it to MrEightThreeOne, who found this eBay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Wheels-Rally-PC-CD-copyright-1996-Rare-game-/371086879525 So... What on earth is this? I tried playing it, but it doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. I'll try it on XP later today. Here's the readme on the disc, which seems to show it was packaged with a special mouse: http://pastebin.com/SRA0uRD2 Does anybody here know anything about this, or where one might even look for more info? mumboking
I've never heard of it either. Did you see the mouse anywhere? Make an ISO/BIN of that shiz! .bin & .cue preferred, just because.
Mr. Skeltal
I've never heard of it either. Did you see the mouse anywhere? Make an ISO/BIN of that shiz! .bin & .cue preferred, just because. Plus,it probably has cda tracks,so it needs to be bin/cue format. Here is a link [no] to the game. Thanks for the upload jamesster The game gives an error and runs the exe called DONTRUN.EXE Edited June 27, 2014 by Cyrem Please don't link to full games. lol username
I didn't see the mouse, no. Just the disc. Regarding the bin/cue - at this point, we don't even know what this thing is exactly, and RRU likes to play it safe with this sort of stuff, hence why I'm not posting it here. I personally don't see any harm done by sharing it, but forum rules aren't about personal opinions. Even though I personally doubt anybody would give a darn about sharing a completely unknown... thing?... from 18 years ago, we stay on the side of caution here on RRU. Also, I haven't been able to get it to run yet. I'll try it later on a VM running an older OS, some others have reported success with that. Fush
I remember I had some sort of hotwheels PC game when I was younger... I don't think it was this one though. I'll see if I can dig it up to make sure though.
FlashySnakez
Actually, I think I might have seen this before at my friends house 6 years ago. (Buried in his pile of unused toys) Can you give us gameplay?
Quisoves Potoo
I think I've found the mouse. It's in the shape of a Chevy Camaro, was sold in 1996, and, as described in the readme, the head and tail lights light-up via a switch at the back. In addition to the one on Toy Peddler, I found one for sale on Ebay and this entry on the Computer History Museum website. aidenpons and lol username
LimeKiller
Does it say who the developer is? AFAIK, Mattel Media didn't usually develop games, just publish them. Semi Logic was pretty much Mattel's developer of choice, and surprisingly they still exist. The game isn't listed on their website, though, so I don't think they were involved with this one. lol username
I have yet to see a single mention of any developer on this disc. I still haven't gotten to play it myself, though, perhaps there's some credits in-game. Also: Here's some smalltime features about the game and the mouse. http://web.archive.org/web/19970113142029/http://www.mattelmedia.com/hotwheels/index.html <- Mouse http://web.archive.org/web/19970113142314/http://www.mattelmedia.com/hotwheels/shopping/index.html <- More about the mouse and screenies of the game.
