lol username
I don't recall any recent topics about LEGOLAND parks, so here we go. I first went to the California park some time in 2003, and a second time in August 2011. I've also been to the Florida park twice, first in January 2012, and again on New Year's Eve of 2013/14. The first visit in 2012 was especially interesting as it was with a friend that I had previously only known online. A few days ago I was thinking about the first trip to the California park in 2003. I had done the driving school thing, and I vaguely remembered some sort of 3D animated video that played as training... One YouTube search later, I found this. I'm pretty sure it's the same video that plays in California. I wonder what company animated it... It's somewhat reminiscent of the animated intros and such in classic LEGO games. I'm just glad the real track wasn't haunted by a floating TV set. emily, Lair, Lind Whisperer and 3 others
Ben24x7
Wow, the boy at 4:26 REALLY looks like Pepper Roni. Still, interesting find. Also, judging by the kid's license (which hardly even looks like him) this video was made quite recently (the pre-rendered video, not the YouTube video). Also, this ain't Legoland California, this is Ford. What cheeky little-- LEGOPerry
The Ace Railgun
I used to go to LEGOLAND California once a year with my family, the last time I went was in 2012. I remember that there used to be a boat battle thing there too, I don't know if it's still there.

Older torso prints, solid black eyes, noses, etc - definitely not anything done recently. Looks like they just edited the license if anything. I don't remember all of the exact details of the video I saw in California, but I definitely remember a female driving instructor character like the one here, and the TV set and kid ring a bell. If somebody could find a video from California to compare that'd be great. Also, this ain't Legoland California, this is Ford. What cheeky little--... What? Ben24x7
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGFHbhrNak8 Why is it that all the best LegoLand park "rides" are always the ones which get shut down at some point, leaving the nostalgic upset? Ayliffe
*nostalgic video* Why is it that all the best LegoLand park "rides" are always the ones which get shut down at some point, leaving the nostalgic upset? Well, Rocket Racers ended up closing for multiple reasons, one of them being that the majority of companies that provided spare parts and the software (Which was by ATD) went bust, making it stupidly hard to get spare parts if it ever broke down. You can read loads more about the entire history of the ride here. aidenpons

You can read loads more about the entire history of the ride here.It would be great if someone could get the source code for the attraction and port it to run without the need for the Conductor. It's already been rewritten to work on XP, so it's a possibility that it could run on Vista/7/8 or 8.1 with a few tweaks. A possibility to use a dedicated PC to control things could be nice. Internet enabled Rocket Racers anyone? Being able to control lights etc. could be an option for people wanting to recreate the whole experience. Hmmm... We'd also need DVD rips of the instructional video... If somebody could find a video from California to compare that'd be great. As someone who's done the driving school every two or so years until I aged out, I can offer a bit of information here. The LEGOLAND style section is the constant at the driving school, at both parks. The pre-rendered stuff is there in Florida and California. Over the years, various companies have sponsored the driving school (in the above video, it was Ford at LEGOLAND Florida, and Volvo sponsors California) and the video has seen some edits to put in mentions to those companies at each park respectively. I have lisences going back to like... 2002 if you want pictures of them. I don't have videos from before the sponsors though... though I do have a pre-sponsor lisence from California. EDIT: I have a 2002/2003 lisence (not sure which, it isn't labeled with the year) with no sponsor a 2004 lisence with the Volvo sponsor a 2007 a 2008 a 2010 (curiously with no mention of Volvo on it, yet I'm sure they were still sponsoring them) a 2012 from Florida which says its sponsored by Ford aidenpons, lol username and emily

I seem to remember it being Volvo at one point. Apparently it's FIAT now...
ProfessorBrickkeeper
I went to LEGOLAND California back in August 2012, and I distinctly remember it being sponsored by Volvo at that point. I think I still have a license from that visit so I may be able to dig that up at some point. Now, on the subject of LEGOLAND videos and animations, I recall filming the 3-4 minute introductory video for the LEGOLAND California LEGO Factory exhibit on my aforementioned visit. I searched for it online and I couldn't find any other recordings of it, so if anybody wants to see it, I might be able to find it on my external HD and upload it soon. Ben24x7
I'd like to see whatever anybody's got. I've got nothing. I've never actually been to any of the parks so far, thus I've got nothing from LegoLand. Even, though some rides/attractions sound good and all. I do remember vaguely back in Primary school a pupil returned from the Summer Holidays wearing LegoLand drivers licence. I cannot remember being Jealous or anything, but one thing for sure he was definitely pleased with it.

pinkfloydfan
I've been twice or three times in the LEGOLAND in Germany. The pakr is small but it should've grown since I was there the last time. I think it was about five or six years ago. I don't remember getting anything cool but I was thinking about the last two years eventually visiting it again. Or even the largest one in Denmakr (not sure if it really is the largest). Brickulator
Used to go to Windsor every year in the summer as a kid, best day. Loved the park and the rides and everything and Rocket Racers was amazing. Always used to buy a set or two at the park and start putting them together on the journey home. Probably lost a few pieces down the back of the car but that's what childhood's about. Did the driving thing a few times, must have a few licenses stashed away somewhere back at home. I also have a still-shiny Redbeard medal from the gold panning thing which is pretty cool. Legoland is great.
lol username
Just remembered this (actually found a download I had of the video in the OP) and am still curious if anybody knows who animated it, or if there's any videos from LEGOLAND CA to compare it to. We never really figured it out.
