Sommanker
I used to play it a load when i was younger and recently saw it on my shelf looking dusty and felt nostalgic. I used to play it on 98/xp but now i have windows 7, it won't run. I've looked around and at other threads here and nothing solves it; the setup.exe file on the disk just won't open. IIRC, sometimes the launcher will open and i will click install, but then it just closes and nothing happens, Any solutions? I would really like to be able to play it again. Sommanker
You've tried running it in Compatibility Mode and as an admin? It worked fine for me on my Win7.... Yes i have. If there are no other possible solutions i might just buy a new disk since it is quite scratched (I already replaced it once before), but that would be my last resort. I tried it in every compatibility mode there is. Although, currently i have only tried to install on a standard user account and running as administrator, if i used the actual admin account would it make a difference? Shouldn't think so. Now, try running Setup.exe directly off the disk. That made a difference for me.

aidenpons
Oh... kay... I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and say "Get Universal Extractor and extract all the .cab 's on the disk you can find. Make a folder and extract them all to there." I don't know if this will work, but hey, we can try. All you really need is a working .exe and then I could send you the rest of the game files, but discs exist for a reason. Copy dsetup.dll dsetup16.dll dsetup32.dll resource.cfg to your game folder off the disk. Or, just copy everything. I probably missed out something. Sommanker
Didn't work. I think this might be the problem. The installer won't run; it is 16bit and i am on a 64bit PC. Any way around it?
le717
The Stunt Rally installer worked for me on x64 Windows, but then again a lot of the old LEGO Media stuff works for me. I have a half-finished Stunt Rally alternate installer, I might be able to hack it into a usable state for you to try this afternoon (no promises, though). I have a half-finished Stunt Rally alternate installer, I might be able to hack it into a usable state for you to try this afternoon (no promises, though). Ooh Would be amazing if you can. Otherwise, i might try using a virtual machine. EDIT: Is this of any relevance? When i run setup.exe, it opens the launcher. It is when i press Install that it closes, opens again with buttons greyed out, i can see in task manager that two processes called setup.exe are running, one the launcher, one that appeared upon pressing 'install'. It just does nothing. Also, the setup in processes says it is 32-bit - 'Setup.exe *32' so i think the 16-bitness may not be the problem, especcially since i just looked at the back of my case and it said Vista and XP are the only compatible operating systems. So I am even more confused now. I'll try your alternate installer if it is available, otherwise, if no other solution arises i think the most likely thing to do that would work would be to buy a new copy, as i said before it is a bit scratched. I hope i don't need to though Already done that before. EDIT: Also, since it is 32 bit (yes?) then it cannot go into Program Files and must go into Program Files (x86) - if the thing is programmed to only be installable into Program Files (sinec in older versions of windows the x86 and non x86 thing was not there) and not Program Files (x86), then it would also not be able to install. I don't know if this is true or if it is programmed like that or w/e but might be relevant.

I don't know if this is true or if it is programmed like that or w/e but might be relevant. You can probably stuff it into Program Files anyway... but there's not much point in that. USER ACCOUNT CONTROL HERE USER ACCOUNT CONTROL HERE USE ACCOUNT CONTROL HERE and so forth. You still have all the extracted files, yes? Rummage around on the disk and on the folder for any more .exe's. I know Rock Raiders has a 16-bit .exe which is hiding in its data_1.cab file, and there's a 16/32-bit .exe sitting on the disk. It probably has the same name as the original .exe, so try searching for that.
le717
USER ACCOUNT CONTROL HERE USER ACCOUNT CONTROL HERE USE ACCOUNT CONTROL HERE and so forth. That is an amazingly accurate description of Vista UAC. I guess we know where Microsoft got their concept from. noghiri, aidenpons and Sommanker
Sommanker
Found this other file 'isetup.exe' in the folder, seems to be the actual setup it tries and fails to open when i press 'install' in the game's launcher - i have now also tried multiple compatibility modes with that. Here are the details i found when i got the properties through right-clicking the process in task manager if they are of any relevance EDIT: Yes this is the only one because as I said earlier, it turns out it is actually 32 bit. Sommanker
Well. I thought giving it time might work and this time I was in luck <3 I got it working Basically, I tried again on my win8 laptop (using the isetup.exe i mentioned two posts ago) and it worked and installed this time But when I clicked play it wanted a disk, and I don't have a disk drive on my laptop. So I transferred it all back to my win7 PC via USB, but for some reason it still wouldn't work there. I then realised that I had lost the actual disk anyway. But then I downloaded a disk drive emulator, mounted the game folder with all the disc files in it, and pressed play. Success Thanks for all the help! Now let's go feel nostalgic.
