LEGO Dimensions

Something interesting from dimensions popped up (it may be slightly spoilery, so I've shoved it in spoilers)

You know Jonathan Coulton, the guy who wrote "Still Alive"? Well, he wrote another GLaDOs song for dimensions, and it's pretty neat-o:

In other news, since I managed to get a PS3 yesterday for just £20 I'll be getting Dimensions at launch. Yay?

I went ahead and bought it. To be honest even now I'm not 100% sold on it (well I guess I kind of am since I did buy it...) but I figured that the price will probably get higher the longer I wait. So far it's decent, typical TT LEGO game though with a stronger emphasis on puzzles which involve moving the minifigures around on the portal. Not exactly difficult, but fun enough for what it is. I'm going to try to finish the game before I judge it.

One thing that did surprise me was that, despite this game using DC characters with no Marvel ones, the avengers Helicarrier actually made an appearance in the BTTF level. That really threw me off.

I have never heard of a game doing this. The higher price tags are for the day-one gamers, within weeks/months game prices will drop rapidly. Unless someone can prove me wrong? That's why I'm waiting for the GOTY edition of Arkham Knight to be released (probably some time early next year), as it'll probably be in the £30 region before long while it was originally £80 or £90 with the season pass.

It's mostly an assumption on my part, to be honest. While it is normally the case for games to get cheaper over time, this isn't just a game- it's also a LEGO set, and as LEGO sets tend to skyrocket in price on the secondhand market (at least, that's been the case for all the sets I've tried to find after their initial production run) I wasn't going to take the risk.

Quisoves Potoo

I just wasted £20; I bought the LEGO Dimensions Portal pack...

...I've got the minifig, I'm okay with that...

BUT THE REST OF THE BLOODY INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN THE GAME

SO I HAVE A BUNCH OF USELESS BRICKS SITTING AROUND WHILST I AM FORCED TO COUGH UP £90 FOR THE GAME AND GOD KNOWS HOW F***ING MUCH TO BUY A CONSLE.

WHY TT GAMES?!

Do not despair!

Easily solved.

TLG uploaded all of the instructions for the mini-models this morning, so you don't have to get the game to build them.

EDIT: I literally just noticed Qui's post above I'm too tired for this

Now don't get me wrong when I say this, as I haven't seen a whole lot of gameplay on LEGO Dimensions. Personally, I am going to wait before I pick it up. I understand the parts for the portal stuff and pad are probably costly, and thus the price is increased. I just can't see forking out $99 just for a base game. I'll probably collect the minifigures just for collecting. And eventually I hope to pick up the game. It just feels like another Skylanders or something similar to Amiibo's. But I do want to say I like the base idea of the game, just a bit iffy on it though.

From what I've heard TT has released a big new update for dimensions. Apparently there's a thing where you can "hire" a character for 30 seconds for 5000 studs, which sounds... interesting I guess? Anyways, I'll test it tonight and post my thoughts here later.

50,000 studs but yeah.

[opinion piece] I think it's actually a pretty clever model. It saves you the frustration of "ugh I have to spend IRL money to unlock X" but also gives you an opportunity to try out a new character, which might lead to "omgz [x character] is damn cool, I'mma buy the set". win-win imo.

There goes any studs I collect in this game. :P

Wave two is out today in the US, whilst the rest of the world has to wait until friday for the new stuffs. Meanwhile, here's some gameplay from the Doctor Who level pack to tide you over:

(WARNING: Videos will probably contain spoilers, so beware!)

'zat so? I'm glad I saw this post before I bought any more expansion packs. Now a large portion of the characters I was going to buy will not be necessary and I can focus on only getting the ones I actually want. That said... 30 seconds? That's ridiculous. I know that they want people to actually buy the figures but, that's hardly enough time to even do anything with them. What happens if the time runs out before you're done with what you hired them for? Just have to try again later? It would make more sense to get them for the duration of a single level, but that's just my opinion.

Flintstones and "the Flinstones, but in the future" aka Jetsons can be added on to the list of IPs. Will they get sets?

Eh... I can see the Jetsons in minifig form (and personally, that is not something I'd object to. The Jetsons is <3), but I also kinda wish it stays a reference and not get sets. Either way, I think the Flintstones and Jetsons references are awesome. They are both classic cartoons kids should be introduced to.

Dazzgracefulmoon

dimensions was always really faulty at hiding locked content.

but that's what locking content on the disc does

I'd take this with a massive grain of salt (hell, maybe even a truckload), but both the Lego Dimensions and Angry Birds Movie wikipedia pages both say that there's gonna be angry birds packs arriving in LD. There's no source or anything though, so take that as you will I guess.
