lol username
We've never had a proper topic on this? Really? Ok. Let's fix that. The year is 1980. A few years prior, in 1978, LEGO had launched the first themes to feature modern minifigures (Town, Castle, and Space). Now they've just released an idea book starring what we know to be the first named minifigures, Bill and Mary. This idea book depicts the two characters on an adventure through LEGOLAND, and also includes many stickers, including torso decorations for your own Bill and Mary minifigures. Scans of the book are available in many places online, but here's trusty 'ol Peeron's gallery: http://www.peeron.com/scans/6000-1/ Nowadays, this idea book is considered a classic by AFOLs. It inspired the LEGO Adventure Book, and several full-sized layouts based on the book have been created for LEGO cons. The end. OHOHOHO. BUT NO. IT WAS NOT THE END. OH HOW IT WAS VERY MUCH NOT THE END. In the Spring 1983 issue of Bricks n Pieces, a comic appeared. It starred Bill and Mary - now renamed to Captain Indigo and Lieutenant Polka Dot. And at first, it stayed faithful to its idea book inspiration. However, Bricks n Pieces was a magazine that only received three issues per year - Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Captain Indigo ran from Spring 1983 to Spring 1989. Nineteen magazines, each with one page continuing the story (slightly less, actually - the first magazine only had the comic running across the bottom of two pages). Needless to say, it didn't take long for the 1980 idea book to become irrelevant. What was the result? First, I'd recommend that you: READ THE COMIC YOURSELF Seriously, it'll only take like ten minutes. (Most of the scans are from Brickset's collection, but the last three are from miniland.nl.) However, if you are not yet convinced that your life would be improved by accepting our lord and savior Captain Indigo into it, and are unfazed by spoilers (or you just don't care to read it in its entirety)... Allow me to post some highlights. Spoiler MISC LINK DUMP: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=548178 <- Brickshelf uploads by Sadie, in case there's ever some freak incident where imgur goes offline forever but Brickshelf remains It seems that at least from August 1985 onward, the comics were written/drawn by Alan Jones: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/alanjonesart Quote Captain Indigo LEGO Bricks and Pieces Magazine August 1985 Illustrated and wrote the story for Captain Indigo character in LEGO Bricks and Pieces magazine from !985. https://www.facebook.com/AlanJonesArt/photos/a.632222250153329.1073741825.172379789470913/682431691799051/?type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/AlanJonesArt/photos/a.632222250153329.1073741825.172379789470913/744842502224636/?type=3&theater Going by how the art style also changed in 1984 (starting at the comic where they go back in time), I'm gonna guess that at least three different illustrators worked on it at different points. Stickers for the characters were also included with magazines: http://brickfanatics.co.uk/memory-lane-the-lego-club-uk-sticker-sheet/ Quisoves Potoo, Lind Whisperer, ProfessorBrickkeeper and 5 others

Quisoves Potoo
The world must know of this. It's like... well it's fairly unique, but it seems to be taking some cues from Little Nemo (or one of its contemporaries) and perhaps Rocky & Bullwinkle, but filtered through a misforged lens that's been cracked as much as it can without breaking. For reference: Spoiler Captain Indigo LEGO Dimensions-pack or bust!oh and an ideas project would be nice too ticketstoloservile, Lind Whisperer, aidenpons and 2 others
