Popular Post RRChief
I first started designing Base Terranova over 2 years ago, but then I kinda abandoned the project as it wasn't turning out how I wanted it to be. After that, a few months ago I picked it up again and did a complete overhaul on the original design. Now, I am proud to finally present what is probably my biggest LEGO project to date: "Base Terranova - A RR HQ" Warning! Lots of pictures in the spoilers! Overview: Spoiler Details of the ground floor: Spoiler The main feature located on the ground floor is Terranova's EC processing center and power generation room. ECs are unloaded onto the conveyer system, which ferry them into the power generation room. Here, the ECs are processed to be inserted into the two generators to power the base. "Careful unloading that!" The conveyer system is driven by a series of gears, which are turned using the grey wheel to the left of it Lastly on the ground floor is a containment chamber, which is used to store all sorts of items ranging from mined resources, spare parts or specimen until they are needed otherwise. In this case, the containment chamber is used to store excess ECs collected Details of the first floor: Spoiler The first floor contains a Briefing Room, the Operations Center, Armoury, Pantry Area and the Sonic Emitter defense system The briefing room is where pre-mission briefings takes place with the team, it is also used to monitor the mission progress throughout. "Docs giving a briefing to Axel and Sparks for an upcoming mission" The Operations Center can be considered the heart of the base as this is where the status of all of the base equipment is monitored, ensuring that daily operations are not compromised. It also serves to process communications between the base, other outlying outposts and mining teams located around the Planet. "A whole lot of dials and control panels!" In case there is a need for the base personal to defend the base personally, the armoury contains all the necessary beam weaponry to deal with the problem, ranging from laser beams, freezer beams and the OP pusher beams . Radios and binoculars are also present so that the raiders can communicate with each other and to locate the threats nearby. And what might be the most important room in the whole of the base is the pantry area, gotta feed those raiders so they can continue mining right? The pantry area contains two drink dispensers, a stove to cook whatever they want to make (fried sandwiches anyone?) and a booth where the raiders can consume their meal and chat with each other. "Nothing like a good refreshing drink and sandwich after a hard day of mining" To defend against Slimy Slugs, Terranova has a Sonic Emitter Defense system to counter them. This is located in structure in the middle of the first floor. If any Slimy Slugs dare to come near for an EC snack, the doors of the structure will open up to allow the Sonic Emitter to deal with them. The pics below show the Sonic Emitter in inactive mode and active mode subsequently. Details of the second floor: Spoiler Moving onto the second floor is where the bunks, sentry rooms, teleportation chamber and Turbo Transport launch pad are placed. While the Operations Center takes care of the base day-to-day functions, the Sentry Room monitors the security of the base. This is where the Sonic Emitter is deployed from, and the base laser defense mechanism can be manually directed should the need arise. "Staying vigilant at all times" The 2 bunk rooms are able to accommodate up to 2 raiders each, in the middle is a table with hooks for the raiders to hang their headgear on before going on to rest. "ZzzzzzzzZzzzzz...." The teleportation chamber allows raiders to be teleported between the base and the LMS Explorer 'The Chief has arrived to see the state of Base Terranova personally!" Ever since I saw the launch pad on one of the LEGO RR HQ inspirational sets, I wanted to built one as it looked so awesome. Hence, I've incorporated an adjustable launch pad into the design of Base Terranova, which houses the Turbo Transport vehicle. Think of it as an aerial version of the Small Transport Truck. If something needs to be transported quickly to the base, the Turbo Transport can be deployed for that. Terranova's Launch Pad with the Turbo Transport docked How the Turbo Transport looks like Details of the Top Floor: Spoiler Lastly comes the top floor of Base Terranova, which features the "Annihilator" Laser Cannon System, Tunnel Scout Landing Pads, Communications Dish Array and the Air Purification Units The prototype "Annihilator" Laser Cannon System towers over the base, watching for any monster threats that should come by. With a unique triple barreled laser armament, it has more firepower than the conventional laser designs, able to target multiple threats and eliminate them swiftly. No need to fear those rock, lava and ice monsters anymore! Similar to the Guardian Outpost, Terranova has two landing pads, each able to house a Tunnel Scout for reconnaissance missions. The design of the air purification unit, which can be seen to the right of the Tunnel Scout in the picture below was based on alan's Large Teleport Pad model. It ensures a constant supply of oxygen throughout the base so that it can operate in any hazardous air environments. To the left of the Tunnel scout is one of the base' communications dish, which transmits and receives messages and also provides radar scans of nearby areas. Jet about to pilot the Tunnel Scout for a scouting mission. The air purification unit and communications dish can be seen to the right and left of the Tunnel scout respectively. I hope you guys enjoyed looking through my newest RR model! Pranciblad
Wow, it's RR HQ as an actual HQ rather than a smattering of unconnected and largely underwhelming buildings...
emily
Nice. This really feels like a legit 90s Lego set, just cranked up to 11. I love how you borrowed the crystal conveyor mechanism from the Neptune Discovery Lab.

I wanted to include more interactive features in my models, so when I saw my old Neptune Discovery Lab set, that idea just came in mind. Fluffy Cupcake
Quite the build! Not the easiest feat making something like this for sure. It looks good.

The Neptune Discovery Lab is a fantastic set, especially for its time. There's a lot of neat stuff going on here.
Dazzgracefulmoon
I like how you've put some play features in there as well, It's nice to see when MOCs include that.
