Flooded!

"Back in the summer of '99

Me and some people from my family

we had a flood and it flooded really hard

The water and dirt basically got married

I should have known we'd never get far

Oh when I look down the gully

It looked like the summer lasted forever

If I had the choice

Yeah - I'd water ski there

Those were the best days of my life"

True story. We couldn't get out from out property, water would have been about 2 meters deep.

+1 To who can guess that song.

Each day, look outside, and consider yourself lucky to have a vast backyard, but think of those who don't. Who have to leave the block to play in something that is large enough for a game of catch, who live in a apartment, or those who have lost yard space to animal waste and garages. And consider yourself lucky, that you have a vast backyard.

Sometimes the alleyways between me and my neighbors flood, then we have to stay on the sidewalk. But there's a feild by my school, and it floods every time it rains, which is good for cheap laughs when people fall down at gym.

Time to counter some bias with more bias. My parents own half an acre, we have a garage, we have always had animals that excrete organic waste, but the property isn't located on a block. It's located on a 300 yard-long stretch of road betwixt two towns, but most of the people that live on that stretch of road are elderly. What's so great about a large backyard if there was no one else around to share it with except for my family?

On topic, I'm right at sea level right now, and oddly enough it really never floods here because we're right on the bay. Sure, there are a few dips in the grass that get huge puddles in them like in the second picture, but it's not that bad. What's really fun is that I have to bike between my classes since they're back to back, and because I have less than ten minutes for each run I have to make shortcuts across the dirt and grass, which was muddy today. You want to know what my pants, bike, and backpack look like right now? No you don't.

I'm not going to clean the bike since it's really my dad's. I want to see his reaction when the family comes down for Easter.

Did your basement ever flood? Mine did, and the sump pump went out. -.- I was hauling 60lb buckets of water up the stairs and out the door for an hour straight. :'(
