Loss of best themes

Have you noticed?

BIONICLE was a great theme for LEGO®, and this year is the last year.

Star Wars was the same, and it ends this year too (unless they renew again).

And TECHNICE was around for decades and it ends.

So what are they thinking, ending all their best-selling sets?

And do they think Ben Poop will help?

Dumb you are if Ben Poop you make ~Yoda

So what will make all their money now?

Lego will just keep selling out to every franchise out there that's willing to give them money. And personally, I think the best theme that was lost was the Mania theme. Remember when Lego Magazine was Lego MANIA Magazine and how it was actually cool? Man, I think I still have one hidden somewhere.

I think it was April 2003 when Mania ended... no, I checked some archives, and it had to be in 2002. If you're interested, here's a link: http://club1.LEGO®.com/en-us/legomagazine/flashback.aspx

By the way, on the Wiki Lego timeline, I see this...

* LEGO® Ben 10 is introduced.

* LEGO® Atlantis is introduced.

* LEGO® Toy Story is introduced.

* LEGO® Cars is introduced.

* LEGO® Prince of Persia is introduced.

* Bionicle is discontinued.

Any details on Cars or Prince of Persia? If Cars is about the movie, then you see my point that Lego just cares about pushing the big movie and other franchise names now. No originality anymore, and that started to die when Mania died. I knew it then, and I see it now.

PRINCE OF PERSIA LEGO®!!! freaking awesome.

I learned something at Wal-Mart today. LEGO® has lied to us about purple bricks. In this topic here LEGO® states that they were halting production of purple bricks because it was difficult to get the color to be consistent across different batches. Fair enough. But today I saw not only Ben 10 legos with tons of purple elements, I also saw Zurg from Toy Story... and half of his bricks are purple! I know Space Police had a purple set too, but I figured that was a one-off. Looks like LEGO® will do ANYTHING to get franchises to give them money, even if it means contradicting official statements.

Yes, they probably just improved the formula for purple, but in order for Toy Story to sign on they would have needed purple for Zurg. Ben 10 could have gotten away with dark blues and decals, but I think it's a big coincidence that purple is coming back right as two franchises that use it for major roles sign on.

Edit for Zurg's name.

Ben Poop? I love Ben10!

Thank you Joe. My point has been proven, but Cars is in the Duplo line which is aimed towards toddlers and really young kids who don't give two halves of a poop about creativity. I think in this case that it's perfectly okay, especially since Cars isn't replacing any original LEGO® theme.

Rumour has it that "Hero Factory" will be sold under the Bionicle name for a short time, much as Bionicle was sold under the Technic name for it's first year in existence. This is a good marketing strategy by LEGO® as it gets people who are fans of Bionicle to buy Hero Factory, hinking they are Bionicle, and hopefully hooking them on Hero Factory so when the Bionicle name and logo and dropped and tossed into a vault, people will still buy Hero Factory. It's slightly different than how they did it with Technic and Bionicle, as then, if Bionicle Epicly Failed, LEGO® didn't have to discontinue a whole theme, but merely a subtheme. That way they could countinue the profitable part of the theme and eliminate the non-profitable part.

As I have told people before, LEGO® Star Wars is far too profitable for LEGO® and Lucasfilms. Neither would want to NOT renew, as it would cause a loss in profit for both Hungry-for-money sides.

Myself, I have lost interest in most LEGO® Themes. I plan only to continue collecting new Star Wars sets as I use the wonderful internet to aqcuire the remaining 11 Bionicle sets I have yet to own, the Star Wars sets I happened to miss, and the space stuff from 1990 to 1999. LEGO® just seems to not only be moving away from its creative area by developing themes for TV Shows and movies (Much more profitable to do so) and killing off the original themes or reusing past ideas. Meanwhile, we fans are left to wonder if LEGO® even cares about us anymore, because we send them an email with a conplaint and a few questions and get the response "We are glad that you like our products."

So LEGO® hires stupid people.

Or machines. Maybe they never read any email.

I want the new Bionicle Heroes theme (pretty much the last one) to just be the old sets, not some transmogified thing that "FEATURES CLASSIC PIECE! OMFGWTFBBQ" but instead just HAS classic pieces... OR, really is made entirely of them. As for Technic, that was teh shiz. We need that back. Cars... Meh, at least it's Duplo and LEGO® knows it. Prince of Persia... Wtf? Toy Story... Meh. Star Wars is certainly getting reenacted, as it's a big money maker (which is all they seem to care about). As for bots... No, there are some real people there, as it appears I got a legit response... Although the "we thank you for loving our products" thing is probably force-tagged on there. Atlantis? Meh. And...

Ben Poop?
