Cirevam
HARDWARE SPECS: Wii: Processors: * CPU: PowerPC based "Broadway" processor, made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process, reportedly clocked at 729 MHz * GPU: ATI "Hollywood" GPU made with a 90 nm CMOS process, reportedly clocked at 243 MHz Memory: * 88 MB main memory (24 MB "internal" 1T-SRAM, 64 MB "external" GDDR3 RAM) * 3 MB GPU texture memory Processors and Memory have yet to totally confirmed at this point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PSTriple CPU: IBM PowerPC "Cell (Broadband Engine)", 3.2 GHz, 64-bit, 8 cores (however, one is disabled in order to increase chip yields & reduce marketing costs, and another is reserved by the PS3 OS, so 6 cores are available for games, Folding, GNU/Linux, etc.) GPU/SPU: nVidia RSX "Reality Synthesizer", 550 MHz System RAM: 256 MB ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ XBawks 360 Custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU : 3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each : 2 hardware threads per core - 6 hardware threads total : 1 VMX-128 vector unit per core - 3 total : 128 VMX-128 registers per hardware thread : 1 MB L2 cache Custom ATI Graphics Processor : 500 MHz : 10 MB embedded DRAM : 48-way parallel floating-point dynamically-scheduled shader pipelines : Unified shader architecture Memory : 512 MB GDDR3 RAM : 700 MHz DDR : Unified memory architecture CONCLUSION: In terms of hardware, Wii sucks, but games like Rock Band/Guitar Hero which are released on the Wii AND either the XBawks or the PSTriple look pretty much the same. Sure, the people in the audience are sprites for Guitar Hero on the Wii, but does it really matter? It's a game console, not a full computer. If I wanted something with as much power as a computer I'd use it for things other than gaming. Computers are better because they're upgradeable, many console games are also released for computers and I could store as many games as I wanted on one. Computers also have emulation, which many consoles do NOT have, save at least the PSP, which means they can play games that consoles cannot play. ADDITIONAL NOTES: Do your research before you say something sucks. By the way, the Rockband/Guitar Hero instruments are identical across consoles. I know because I have Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii and Rock Band 2 for the Xbox, and everything is exactly the same except for visual design and whether or not they're wireless. Even the drum pads are interchangeable. Superjerk out.
Lair
"Someone punch cirevam for using logic. " ~Acmex Anyways, I like wii a lot, but all else I have is PC and PS2, so I can't judge it that well. But I think I heard that at least half of all XBox fail within a few years...
TheEPICtrainrider
1) Wii still sux 2) Pc games are MODIFIABLE, IE rock raiders. 3) Wii can't be upgraded, because Nintendo doesn't want Sony stealing their stuff
RockmoddeR
1) does not, you ever played the Wii-exclusive New Super Mario Bros or Mario Kart or SSBB? 2) I CAN and DO run the homebrew channel for N64 and SNES games 3) not for now, anyways...I've seen upg. N64's, maybe all we need s someone to step up and disassemble their Wii for examination...
Storm
1) I have SSBB, it kicks butt, though the last boss in story is HARD 2) I don't have THAT, I don't wanna do illegal stuff 3) I have the model that was from when it was just released, so the scanner SUCKS at double-disks, so SSBB is a PAIN to get working

N64's, maybe all we need s someone to step up and disassemble their Wii for examination... 1) Oh wow, a remake of a 20 year-old game. Lrn2creative Nintendo. MKWii and Brawl are both slow, and I'm not comparing them to other games. They're slow on their own. Try using a better game as an example like the Wii-exclusive Excite series or The Conduit or... well, anything except what you suggested. Alternatively, don't buy a Wii, buy a Sega Genesis. It does what Nintendon't. 2) To be honest, I've never used homebrew stuff except as a test, but I know emulators can run homebrew ROMs. I still can't make a cynical argument here. 3) It's way easier to upgrade old consoles as the parts aren't as complicated and it's easier to program and figure out how they run. This is why there are hardly any decent emulators past Playstation 2. Dolphin is still in the works, and cxbx and Zeon are fairly recent, and all of those take a beefy computer to run. Older consoles run on less powerful machines with fewer compatibility issues because there isn't as much to deal with and they didn't have any security checks to see if you're messing with the console. Ever wonder why the Wii keeps getting firmware updates? It's because people are messing with them to run homebrew and other things. Also, there's no point in upgrading an Xbox 360 or PS3 because they're basically gaming computers with less RAM under the hood. The Wii is a Gamecube with dual-layer reading capabilities, more processing power and RAM, and waggle. It also looks like a Mac. Therefore, the Wii sucks as a console. Some games rock, but that doesn't change the fact that the console and all the shovelware that's being released for it suck.

INB681
Wow Cirevam. It's been a long time since I tried something like that out. Anyway, consoles aren't something for me. 1. You can't mod any game. 2. If you mess with them and release the 'how to mess' you get sued. 3. You are COMPLETELY dependent on professionals if the thing craps out on you. I'd (maybe) only buy a PS3 controller. IIRC there is a driver made by some guy. OFF-TOPIC: Does anyone know a decent PS2 emulator? Do please tell me if it's too tech or I need a souped up PC. Cirevam
PCSX2 is the best one around, but you'll need more than a 64MB integrated video chip to run it. I mean, it runs on my computer but the games are slooooooooooooooooooow. It should run fine if you're not using a laptop.
